HIV virus a biological agent says Nobel (peace prize)winner (Kenyan ecologist Wangari Maathai)

NAIROBI: Kenyan ecologist Wangari Maathai, the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize, yesterday reiterated her claim that the Aids virus was a deliberately created biological agent.

"Some say that AIDS came from the monkeys, and I doubt that because we have been living with monkeys (since) time immemorial, others say it was a curse from God, but I say it cannot be that.

"Us black people are dying more than any other people in this planet," Maathai told a press conference in Nairobi a day after winning the prize for her work in human rights and reversing deforestation across Africa.

Conspiracy

"It's true that there are some people who create agents to wipe out other people. If there were no such people, we could have not have invaded Iraq," she said.

"We invaded Iraq because we believed that Saddam Hussein had made, or was in the process of creating agents of biological warfare," said Maathai, also Kenyan deputy environment and natural resources minister, who has gained a reputation as a fearless speaker.

"In fact it (the HIV virus) is created by a scientist for biological warfare," she added.

"Why has there been so much secrecy about Aids? When you ask where did the virus come from, it raises a lot of flags. That makes me suspicious," Maathai added.

Africa accounts for 25 million out of the estimated 38m people across the world are infected with HIV, and the vast majority of infected Africans are women, according to Unaids estimates.

The US congratulated Maathai on winning the Nobel Peace Prize, but tempered its praise over her claims about Aids.

"We don't agree with that." The official pointed to a report of those comments published in August in Kenya's daily Standard newspaper, in which Maathai was quoted as saying that HIV/Aids was created by scientists

And she got the Nobel peace prize?!

Well, at least they didn't give it to ElBaradei...

Isn't HIV/AIDS virtually 100% preventable?

Hide your wallets everyone!

Apparently even the Nobel committee couldn't deny Americans and--heaven forbid--an Israeli most of the science Nobel prizes. They have been in the habit of making a mockery of the others.

WOW! Kerry, a "Brahman Honkey" is highly suspect. He is tracherous (some times spelled traitorous) and may have carried the disease inside his body to infect Africa...oh MONKEY not HONKEY ... oops, Guess this beats me too.

"In fact it (the HIV virus) is created by a scientist for biological warfare," she added.

I think the monkey theory is more believable.

"said Maathai, also Kenyan deputy environment and natural resources minister, who has gained a reputation as a fearless speaker."

"Fearless" was not the word I had in mind...

"Us black people are dying more than any other people in this planet,"

Never underestimate the power of the written word.

Well Carter did let the peaceful Saddam Hussein rise to power.
That deserves the Nobel Peace prize.

"HIV Virus" is redundant.

Based on what is known on HIV structure - designing such a thing de novo starting from the intended function is something the humans might be able to do in the future, but are not capable of doing now. Most certainly it was not within human knowledge in 1960s-70s.

On the other hand, aids is rare or non-existant among those who do not consider the anus a sex organ.

Oh, yeah, let's top off our Nobel Peace Prize with a nice big juicy blood libel! Create as much hate a possible.

The Nobel committee has lost its mind.

While farfetched, I cannot discount the possibility.

However, if I were to engineer a virus, I certainly would not create one that was so easy to prevent.

Don't share your heroin needles, don't be a rump ranger, don't sleep with anyone you can get to hold still long enough. Sounds pretty simple to me.

Bad headline.

agent: 2a : something that produces or is capable of producing an effect : an active or efficient cause b : a chemically, physically, or biologically active principle
Of course it's an agent, what the headline writer meant to say was weapon.
