Republicans Glad to Lose on Bill to Start New Draft
The hasty House vote 'putting a rumor to rest' is 402-2. Democrats call the tactic a sham that trivializes the problem of troop shortages.
The vote, launched with only hours of notice and no public hearings, was designed to put an end to talk that President Bush's foreign policy could overtax the all-volunteer Army that has been national policy since the end of the Vietnam War.

So this bill failed to pass 402-2. My question is: Which two congressmen voted to reinstate the draft?
It was not a Republican bill. It never amazes me but I would think they would at least pretend to report the truth somewhere.
Forces them to be more honest?? They're basically calling it a Republican bill in the headline. The part most people will see and read no further.
I'm talking about Congressmen not the MSM. Rangel never expected his bill to ever be voted on on the House floor.
Let me know if you can find an honest report anywhere in the MSM when it involves; Bush, Kerry, Republicans or Democrats.
I haven't found an honest reporter out there. (An honest reporter would be one I could watch for years and NEVER KNOW which way he leans on the political spectrum.)
About as rare as sasquatch
This rag totally self-destructed when it attempted to throw the recall election with its hit pieces on women claiming Arnold groped them and its totally bogus polls showing recall losing and/or Bustamante winning. Really, no one takes it seriously anymore, even the lefty artsys hate its arts critics. And it's hemorraging money - word on the street is the the Tribune Company is desparately trying to unload it. Maybe we should get a Freep consortium together, buy cheap and have a lot of fun cleaning out its cesspool HQ.
Oh, PS, the Sports section is still pretty decent, even though PC rears its ugly head every so often. As Al Rantel says: "I get the LA Times on the internet for free and it's worth every penny."
.Bills HR 163 and S 89 have been introduced in 2003, prior to the War in Iraq by Charles Rangel (Democrat-NY) and Senator Ernest Hollings (Democrat-SC) respectively.

A Freeper take-over of the LATIMES.... I could just imagine JohnHuang2 writing op-eds and registered doing the editorial cartoons...
bump
The next draft we feel will not be an open door.
That's a great cartoon.
Despicable yet predictable.
