The Liberal Party of Australian Prime Minister John Howard picked up two seats from the opposition Labor Party in national elections Saturday, according to initial results, an early sign that the U.S.-allied government may hang onto power.

Please let this hold . . . this'll be a big morale booster for our side if it does. It'll go to show that there are some people, some nations that cannot be bullied into voting for the party the terrorists want elected.

The online national results a minute ago showed Howard winning 54-46 with 17 percent of vote counted; his coaltion appears to be picking up quite a few seats, not just in Tasmania.

I think this is a good indicator of momentum toward the side of right. And I think a precurser of the outcome of our election. Good news all around it seems to me.

The Kerrys are 0 for 1. And he's also lost Australia's support if he gets elected here.

With just over 10.4 percent of the vote counted, the Liberal Party had 53.7 percent of the vote and the opposition Labor Party had 46.3 percent, according to the early results. Labor leaders were already pessimistic about their chances.
