WASHINGTON, Oct. 8 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Following is a joint statement from Bobby Muller, president of Alliance for Security and founder of Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation, and Jehmu Greene, president of Rock the Vote, on an Annenberg Public Policy Center poll on the military draft:
Today's poll by the respected Annenberg Public Policy Center is a clear example of why we need our Presidential candidates -- and Congressional candidates -- to take seriously the issues surrounding the draft. The public is looking at the facts and is simply not going to accept the fact that saying no to the draft does not mean it won't happen.
The fact is that people ARE concerned, propelled by growing anxiety about troop commitments, prolonged instability in Iraq, and the possibility of another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. A recent poll by the Alliance for Security -- http:// www.allianceforsecurity.org -- that 71 percent of Americans are worried about the capacity of the military to meet its overseas commitments and defend the United States from attack, and 58 percent believe a military draft will be reinstated in the near future.
No one wants a draft. But people do want answers. They want to know if current and future requirements from our military will necessitate a draft. And our leaders should give us honest answers to these questions.
We hope tonight's debate allows the public to ask this question - - and we hope that President Bush and Senator Kerry provide more than lip service. Young people and their families want to know how they are going to handle current and future military capacity given the real strains being placed on our armed forces. We can handle the truth.

Scare tactics!
The Democrats got outed and pimp-slapped on this issue tonight. They're gonna have to come up with something else to scare people with now.
Bush said No Draft.
Kerry said he would add 40,000.
With whom is a draft more likely?
Keep in mind what retention would be like under a Kerry administration.
Bush should have told these bed wetters that as long as we have young people that will volunteer to fight and die for their sorry asses then no draft will be necessary. If the day comes that that is no longer possible then we will either have a draft or we will surrender to the enemy.
Rock the Vote would not have released this statement if they thoight Flipper won tonights debate
Bush wants the draft for those earning less than $200,000. Tis is part of his "plan" now that he has taken away school lunches, social security and burned churches in the south.
Oh, wait.. the church burnings and school shootings have not happened since Cliton left office....
Kerry did not say there will be no draft. In fact, Kerry implied that a draft was unavoidable, mentioned that we should have sent 700k troops to Iraq, and stated that he was planning to add 40k more as soon as he took office.
I don't know about you all, but if I were a concerned parent or a cowardly young adult, I know who I'd be voting for.
Michael Moore's target audience.
Why not reinstate the draft? All the Liberal Girlie-Men will run off to Canada and we'd be rid of them once and for all! Plus that would leave all their lonely female counterparts in the US for the REAL MEN in uniform to re-educate: teach them how to shower, take them to Clinique to learn how to apply make up, take them to church to learn real American values...

On a side note, I really think that everyone should send election day condolences to Michael Moore in the form of a cupcake, cookie, or other delicious pastry. Let's see if we can cheer him up, and help him break the quarter ton mark.
