I got it, and I guarantee you that PLAYS with African-Americans. Bush may have gotten himself another 1% of the black vote---and hey, every percent counts.

I'm afriad only the very insightful grasped the meaning there.. I wish he'd taken just another 2 seconds to develop that idea -- like you just did -- to draw the parallel with "slavery". It would have multiplied the impact for many listeners. Even so, it was awesome!
