How can these punks keep their crime a secret?
Whitey?
Tell me again how horrible Abu Graib was...
The school I went to would not even allow frat/sororities on campus.
I awoke on morning at school tied to the springs of my bed (the mattress was missing) with stereo cables and with my ear pierced. That was a typical weekend.
I personally have never had any use for fraternities, but you might as well outlaw teenagers.
Young people think that they will live forever and nothing will ever harm them.
All you can do is try to educate them and pray for the best.
Just today a young dumb*ss passed me on his motorcycle, splitting the lane between me and the car to my right. He just barely made it. His buddy on the other bike wasn't as stupid and stayed where he was.
I predict the stupid one will have a short lifespan but what are you gonna do, outlaw motorcycles?
The young and stupid will just find another way to commit suicide.
There but for the grace of God go I...
Huh!? What am I missing? Why do CU officials think an appropriate response to this tragedy is to meet with Greek officials and assess Greek life?
Anybody get whatever it is that's going over my head, here?
Also, as someone who never was affected by peer pressure all that much, I wonder why those young people didn't just simply refuse to drink all that booze. Why not just drink a little, or none, and dump the rest down a gutter somewhere. Or, better yet, have a little gumption and say you just aren't going along with such a stupid stunt.
This little blurb made me nauseated:
"No parent should have to deal with losing a son to a senseless accident like this," he said, adding that he understood why Lanahan would be upset over the "degrading and demeaning" comments.
Accident? It was senseless, but an accident? Hopefully it wasn't intentional, but neither was any part of the evening that led up to his death 'accidental'.
"Lanahan said he hopes the fraternity will release the results of its investigation into his son's death. So far, Chi Psi has said it will not release the records. "
Criminal case. Subpoena. Search. Screw 'em!
Hasn't this college been given a lot of heat over hazing and alcohol abuse in the past few years?
Naaaaa..... Buying your friends is an old custom that goes back to the stone ages.
Are you kidding? Do you realize how much of this stuff goes on in university housing and away from school? I was in a fraternity, and while there was plenty of partying on the weekends, we watched each other's backs as best we could and talked straight and firm to guys who went too far. Guys who didn't get the message got the boot.
There are collections of idiots everywhere. Find something else to ban, like selling or serving alcohol to minors--oh, wait, that's right--it has been banned. It appears that there is recourse on behalf of the unfortunate Mr. Bailey (if he was, in fact, underage).
If your point is that authorities should crack down on this kind of dangerous behavior, I am with you. If your point is to go beyond that--to ban fraternities--we are at odds.
