Unlike some others on the Vote for Change tour, indie-rockers Death Cab for Cutie had never been a political band.
That started to change this year, as guitarist Chris Walla's personal "tally sheet" started to lean against the Bush administration.
"No politician is perfect ever, not even close," says Walla, who will perform with Death Cab on a bill with Pearl Jam at tonight's Vote for Change show at Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee. "I don't expect a president to be perfect, but for me, it's sort of a little tally sheet.
He calls the band's inclusion on the partisan Vote for Change tour, ...a "series of coincidences and good luck."
The Bellingham, Wash., band's brilliant Transatlanticism has sold more than 250,000 copies "It seemed like kind of a seamless thing to do," Walla says..

"There hasn't been anything we've felt strongly about ever, but this election is kind of a big one.

In the Village Voice, Christgau called that "an acceptable showing. But Walla's discreet refusal to utter our candidate's name is troubling.
On the other hand, there are fans who will complain because the band is being political at all. Walla is still adjusting to the reaction and is uncomfortable taking sides.
"That's why it's a good idea to stay in the middle as much as you can," he says about Christgau's criticism. "We're very political people, but as passive-aggressive, meek mama's boy Midwesterners, it's difficult to get up in front of a group of people and tell them what they should do."
"I feel like the president has failed in the golden rule department," he says. "On a diplomacy level that comes to the front when you tour in Europe or Japan or Australia.

Sad, Sorry Columns you Wrote Today
They all read like pure advertisements for John Kerry.
You "journalists" are supposed to write with balance and show other points of view, but no, you couldn't do that. You don't even pretend to be unbiased anymore. Democrat party-shill you apparently are.
When you mention how Eddie Vedder "famously impaled a President Bush mask on a microphone stand" to "express his disgust" you fail to mention that just as famously (among people who read more than the Sentinel) half the crowd walked out in disgust. 'Course YOU probably didn't know that.
Its called JOURNALISTIC ETHICS YOU MORON.
To quote Red Foreman from "That Seventies Show", these guys are like "little boys in Big boys pants." They're SO nuanced.
They simply sold out for the publicity.
HEhehehe!
I am guessing that you DIDN'T get a response to your letter...
Still waiting. But these Sentinel guys usually do respond. It seems they try to keep the lines of communication open for some reason. Probably trying to maintain the subscription numbers.
Death Cab?
