I didn't just fall off the turnip truck yesterday. I have three college degrees. I certainly don't use the media, be it Fox or CNN or a network, to influence my vote. I do my own homework - in fact, subscribe to The Weekly Standard and National Review.

I'm simply saying that Keyes has come across here as certifiable. Couple that with the fact that he's viewed as an interloper, and you have one hard to like candidate.

The political scene in Illinois is rife with corruption and incestuous (literally) on the democrat side (Madigan, who runs the legislature -- his daughter is the AG), and fraught with strife and corruption on the Republican side. We don't have a lot of cheer, here, so to speak regarding state politics. The Republicans can't get their act together. The democrats control everything, including how many times the dead vote. Hard to overcome that one!

That said, Bush is doing really well here in Illinois. Thank God. And the good thing about someone as "noticeable" as Keyes has been that Obama has had to spend money that could otherwise have gone to other DNC candidates across the country. If nothing else, Keyes has achieved that.

You might have missed it, but on Keyes threads anyone who doesn't think Alan is the best thing since apple pie qualifies as fell off the turnip truck, or worse.

Surely this is hyperbole. From what you've said so far, "politically unwise" and "nepotist" would seem to be more accurate descriptions of your views. If the former is the case, and it simply is a matter of political wisdom, is such a quality a deal breaker? You said you agree with a lot of what he says. I guess I don't understand what you need to see in order to be convinced.

I didn't just fall off the turnip truck yesterday.

Also, I apologize if I made it seem like I thought you were ignorant. I was trying to be complimentary, because even the highly-educated do not make honest attempts to inform themselves about candidates in elections. It's not a matter of intellect or credentials, but a matter of making the decision to be a responsible citizen, which you appear to have made.
