Bush, Cheney Left Off Mo. County Absentee Ballots

VAN BUREN, Mo. - Officials in one Missouri county are reprinting absentee ballots for the Nov. 2 general election after discovering that President Bush (news - web sites) and Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) were left off.

The ballots were mailed beginning Sept. 21, and Carter County Clerk Becky Gibbs said several voters noticed the oversight.

"We are rectifying it," she said. "There was no intent to leave them off."

Fewer than 500 of the erroneous ballots were sent out, and some have already been returned.

Replacement ballots will be sent to everyone who requested an absentee ballot along with a letter explaining the error.

Terri Durdaller, spokeswoman for the Secretary of State, said that if absentee voters who previously returned a ballot send a new one, it will replace the previous one. If they don't return a new ballot, their first one will be counted.

"The key is just to make sure everybody does get the changed ballot," Durdaller said.

Ballots that other voters will use Nov. 2 have not been printed yet.

Gibbs said the cost to print replacement absentee ballots should be minimal.

Found it on Drudge. It made me chuckle, but also served as a friendly reminder of the need to be extra-vigilant this election year. You guys in Missouri ought to watch 'em like hawks ;)

This is nothing, and it's just the TIP OF THE ICEBERG!

You think that's bad, you should see the MASSIVE VOTE FRAUD being perpetrated by the DNC all over the country!! Yet the National Media is ignoring it.

That's their worry? They left Bush and Cheney OFF the ballots, but they seem only to be concerned about the COST of replacing the BAD ballots? Oh Missouri...... my home state..... no wonder I don't miss it!

DSBull, we can't verify that yet, since they are copies of copies of ballots ;)

As Reagan once said, "Trust but verify". Honest mistakes happen. But keep an eye on 'em just in case.

Uh, it's just a mistake. Yeah, that's it, a mistake. We really didn't mean to do this, we're not a bunch of RAT crooks trying to commit election fraud or anything like that, OK?

If Robin Carnahan became the Secretary of State in Missouri, this would be standard operating procedure and I doubt that she would make moves to correct such a situation. The Carnahan's are the vote thief's best friend.

I could understand one mistake (which even the printer or proof-reader should have caught), but in addition to leaving Bush/Cheney off the ballot they also left of Matt Blunt who is a Republican running against Claire Haskill, a Democrat.

Evidently, it appears like someone ordered a straight Democratic ticket!

I'm from Missouri where most of the focus has been on the City of St. Louis, but it appears as though we're going to need to be vigilant throughout the State.

Maybe the TV advertising from the Kerry Campaign went into print material?

The little old ladies who gave out the ballots in a recent election in our Missouri county were giving the wrong ones out. Different districts had different things on their ballots, and the only way I noticed it was that we were supposed to vote on more funding for the rural fire dept and that measure wasn't on my ballot. Of course, I complained and got the right ballot, but I don't know how many people just voted with the wrong ones.

Only a Democrat would be stupid enough to believe tht line.

So they're mailing out a SECOND set of absentee ballots? Doesn't that provide a whole lot of vote-fraud material just waiting to be plucked from mailboxes? Who would miss it, since the replacement ballot is being mailed with a letter of explanation? If someone requested an absentee ballot and already voted and sent it in, chances are they're not going to wonder about a replacement ballot that never shows up.

And these ballots are not voter-specific (preprinted with the voter's name and info)...what's to keep a Kerry voter from passing along his extra ballot to some other interested party?

Too many opportunities for error/fraud. And this is NOT the first county or state where mistakes like this have happened in this election.

Terri Durdaller, spokeswoman for the Secretary of State, said that if absentee voters who previously returned a ballot send a new one, it will replace the previous one. If they don't return a new ballot, their first one will be counted.

How can this be so? How can a ballot which doesn't even offer the correct choices be valid? If this were the case, why wouldn't every precinct in the nation make a similar "mistake" in favor of the candidate of their choice? This can't be legal. Someone help me out here.

This is the explanation of why the Kerry campaign has decided to stop spending money on advertisements in Missouri. They're vote fraud machine is all set up and ready to steal the state - no need to campaign. Need to check out the other states the Kerry campaign has pulled out of . . . .
