A Reminder in a time of War
Cornerstone Curch sermon (Austin Texas) | Unknow | Unknown

All,

I Know this is a vanity and for that I appologize. But my mother sent this to me. I had not seen it posted here before, and I wish I could be more definate on the source. I have seen it a couple of other times floating around emails. (If anyone does know the true source let me know I want to give credit where it is due.) But I think the Gist of this is what we should remember about our fighting men and women and their spirt. The reasons listed are the same reason I joined the military and served, as I am sure many others did. Thanks again folks and God Bless our troops. (Thanks again Mom you still know how to make you son cry.)

The following passage is from a sermon by John Hagee of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio:

I want you to close your eyes and picture in your mind the soldier at Valley Forge, as he holds his musket in his bloody hands. He stands barefoot in the snow, starved from lack of food, wounded from months of battle and emotionally scarred from the eternity away from his family surrounded by nothing but death and carnage of war. He stands though, with fire in his eyes and victory on his breath. He looks at us now in anger and disgust and tells us this...

I gave you a birthright of freedom born in the Constitution and now your children graduate too illiterate to read it.

I fought in the snow barefoot to give you the freedom to vote and you stay at home because it rains!

I left my family destitute to give you the freedom of speech and you remain silent on critical issues, because it might be bad for business.

I orphaned my children to give you a government to serve you and it has stolen democracy from the people.

It's the soldier, not the reporter who gives you the freedom of the press.

It's the soldier, not the poet who gives you the freedom of speech.

It's the soldier, not the campus organizer who allows you to demonstrate.

It's the soldier, who salutes the flag, serves the flag, whose coffin is draped with the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag!!!

"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Amen."

Moderator if this has been posted before please pull or lock.

These are tough times and tough times call for tough words. When you are faced with someone who doubts what we are doing in the war on terror is right share this with them. It is in God's Hands that we lay our lives, and follow his guidance. Please remember or fighting men and women overseas. They need our support and Those of us here to watch their backs and protect their livelyhood and honor from those that would rather see them fail. Thanks you all.

I also apologize for some of the spelling. My cranial spell check is broken.

The poem is a classic, and timeless.

Zell Miller added it to his powerful convention speech.

We need to hear it repeatedly today.

Pastor Hagee's intro, and adding the closing prayer is very effective, powerful.

How wonderful that your mom shared it with you, and you shared it with us!

A handy version to post on threads (thanks for reminding me to do so more often):
