I posted the Q&A segment of this article some time ago. See
Ray Flynn: At the Crossroads of Church and State ["Don't vote for any pro-choice candidates." ] This is the rest.
Saddened by what he terms the takeover of his party by liberal elites, Flynn said he can see how the Democrats are losing their grip on blue-collar voters in the statistics from his own district. My district used to be 90-91% Democrat, now its about 60%. A lot of them feel that the Party has ignored them.
Hopefully, these folks won't vote Democrat just from force of habit on November 2.

I'd love to know how it's taken all those Catholic Democrats so long to realize that party-values have changed. How can you be for the little man and against the littlest (and most innocent) of all?

Ray Flynn is probably a very likable guy, and I'd probably enjoy having a beer (or 6) with him, but unfortunately he is just absolutely clueless about virtually everything. I'm afraid it's "Catholic leaders" like Ray Flynn who have gotten us into the mess we're in today. They may have been decent people at heart, but there's always a price to pay when your leaders can't tell their ass from a hole in the ground.
His favorite president is FDR? Perhaps he wants to return to the golden days when Communists held the Cabinet positions. Dorothy Day is a great historical figure? Right, like "liberation theology" is just what the Catholic Church needs today. His favorite movie is "Chicago"? Wasn't that the movie where they didn't wear many clothes and sort of defined "amoral entertainment." This guy has neither intellect nor moral sense nor political understanding, nor historical awareness.
To give him credit, at least he hasn't sold his soul to the devil like the rest of the Democratic Party (and GOP for that matter). But he should have stayed on the docks where he belonged.

I can understand it, actually. They didn't bother to conduct the kind of internal fighting that goes on in the GOP over moral and cultural issues. The cultural conservatives figured that party unity was more important than ideological purity (sound familiar?) The radical liberals/libertines had no such scruples. Before they knew it, the social conservatives had been kicked to the curb by the radicals.
This is why conservatives should NEVER allow themselves to be pushed out of the GOP and should NEVER sacrifice their moral and cultural beliefs for the sake of party unity. Without the conservative agenda, the Republican party means nothing.

I hadn't seen your post about Flynn coming to Cleveland before I posted #6.
But I can't imagine what "inspiring and uplifting message" Flynn could possible deliver to Cleveland Catholics 2 weeks before the elections. He's a pro-life Democrat. What he possibly say that would be "inspiring and uplifting"?

Hey Max, take it easy on Flynn. He's not perfect? Big deal. If every Democrat were of the Ray Flynn variety, we'd have a much stronger, more unified country. If every liberal Catholic were like Ray Flynn, the Church wouldn't be in the dire straits that she is. The glass is half full this time.

Not that I know of. However, he has said this:
CMQ: What should Democrats who are dedicated pro-lifers do if the Party continues to ignore them or take them for granted?
Flynn: Ignore them. Dont vote for any pro-choice candidates.

Ray is a good guy but do remind me, has he endorsed Bush? Nope. But for abortion, Flynn is one of those Great Society Democrats who believes in the redistribution of wealth.
He doesn't have the guts of a Zell Miller.

He consistantly said on TV interviews that he voted for President Bush in 2000; he now runs a non-profit organization and is prohibited from doing so.

Yes, but further down in his Q & A he says that Republicans are not for the poor and needy and then he totally trashes them. This article does not convince me that in the privacy of the polling booth that Flynn won't find an excuse to vote for Kerry.
I'm a pro-life Catholic, but give me a Jew like Mayor Ed Koch any day over Flynn. He says he disagrees with everything that Bush stands for, but the War on Terror and Homeland Security trumps all and that is why he is backing Bush.
To: Coleus
I know Ray is a Bushie, but the Kennedys have run several 'non-profits' in Massachusetts and that never kept them from sloshing about freely in partisan politics. But then, Ray ain't no stinking Kennedy nor a Kerry for that matter ....

Exactly. In all the other articles I've seen, Flynn has scrupulously avoided endorsing either Bush or Kerry for that reason. However, his words on the abortion issue speak volumes.

He's very strong on the abortion and gay marriage issues in terms of supporting the president. My suspicion is that he also supports some of the president's education and medicare policies that most conservatives disagree with... Thus, he may be a stronger supporter of the president that I am on many things.
