I "lost" my job when my last company folded. My partner and I started a new one and while we are not getting paid yet, start-ups and self employed people are major contributors to the economy.
Yep. Me too, about three years ago, opened my own shop when my old job cut back. Best thing I ever did--however, there can be a little more stress and administrative headaches. Best of luck--but you'll do fine. This is still America, as long as we keep the left out of power....
Me too. Actually, after being laid off, my wife and I started a company, and it more than pays our bills but was really a lot of work to set up. We wouldn't have shown up on an employment report. NOW, I also have a regular job, plus we have the business, so we're even better off that we were before the '00 / '01 recession.
You need to have a "come to Jesus" meeting with your boss and demand a raise.
