"especially if you are not doing anything wrong."

Right, what were the Jews in 1930's Germany doing wrong again?

"Opponents say the Republican leadership rushed the legislation to the floor without much time for debate or public input, just as Congress prepares to recess for a pre-election break."

Catch me while I stop laughing. Kerry said he would implement the 9/11 commission recommendations immediately without modification. So what would Kerry say if Bush said he wouldn't? Bush is a liar would be a start. Well what he said was Bush was obviously not interested in protecting the public.

Want to know what dims are up to? Just pay attention to what they accuse others of doing.

You just gotta shake your head and go hmmmmm sometimes.

It's disconcerting when I find myself in the same camp as the ACLU and their ilk. Many on this forum will find this legislation perfectly acceptable, Constitution be damned.

Yep. The ACLU sees that TSA doesn't take too strong a peek at swarthy travelers... can't profile the types that would kill us... and soooooo... we're gonna keep closer track of citizens, oh, and leave it up to the AG whether you are evil. There, that will make it better. I see a parallel with DC gun control here in the first part, and see a Hillary in all the "evil" citizen's futures in the second.

Well, imagine this nightmare scenario. GOP Congress passes bill. Bush signs it. Kerry wins Presidency. Kerry "enforces the current laws" (gun control or otherwise). Voters punish GOP Congress by given Dems a majority again.

Remember, most swing voters (those who decide close elections) would rather have democratic socialism than corporate fascism - mark my words.

ACLU's way of trying to stay "fair and balanced" by throwing us an arsenic laced bone.

I smell liberal pork in this designed to thwart its original intent

I have no doubt that there is "pork" in this designed maybe to cause the bill to fail, or to profit someones district, enhance their power, or just to attach a pet project that would fail on it's own. In either case it is a very bad bill and we should not allow it to pass.
Please do not error in think that the liberals are the only ones who go for unconstitutional power. It is human nature. If "we the people" do not require our elected officials to abide by their oath to support our Constitution, then we have no Constitution. We are the ONLY enforcement mechanism.

Thanks for posting the GOA Alert.

I hardly think that Larry Pratt and Co. could hardly be called ACLU type "liberals" as some here have insinuated.

I predict a division among Freepers on this post. Some will offer up their civil rights to "protect America," while others will point out that their civil rights are inviolable.
This is one of the key issues, along with second amendment issues that divides the members of the Free Republic community.

Sadly, I agree with your take on this. Unfortunately, most of the libertarians and Buchannan type "paleo-conservatives" (who voted FOR Bush in 2000) have long since FR, especially since the aftermath of 9/11. Many of them were either banned, or driven away by some of the neo-con trolls and Bush/Cheney campaign Kool Aid drinking posters here.

I don't hang out with the typical ACLU crowd either. However, we pro-2nd Amendment patriots need to work with them on this one, especially with all the crap that Ashcroft and Co. have been laying on AMERICAN citizens since 9/11.
