(IsraelNN.com) An explosion occurred a short time ago in the Taba Hilton, on the Egyptian side of the border. According preliminary reports from Magen David Adom emergency medical service officials, the cause of the blast was a gas tank.

OK. I would presume that's to prevent further attacks, but who knows.
What in the heck is wrong with Sharon? If I were his age, I would wipe Palestine from the face of the earth, and that would be my legacy to Israel.
The next guy in line could take credit for talking trash about what a butcher I am, and how sorry Israel is for my deplorable actions, and he can apologize to the international community. But there would not be one, so called, Palestinian left to apologize to.
Also closed the Suez Canal, according to Debka. IDF is setting up a war room to allow Homefront Command the ability to shuffle rescue assistance to the scene.
Opinion- This reeks of Al Qaeda, and I'll bet a running gunfight is going on somewhere in Egypt right now
I think it is AQ also. Sounds like the Las Vegas attack plan in miniature
Good to see you Karl.
I think you hit the nail squarely on the head. IIRC, Threat Matrix had a posting three days ago about something similar. I'll have to check.
Right, and we agree that radical Islam sustains itself on hate. You made a great point in putting the current conflict in historic context as one in a series. I, on the other hand, did not make my point well: that we should not descend to their level of vitriol, or we perpetuate the evil ourselves.
Could be, though Hamas, Hizbollah and others could pull this off so far. They've been practicing in Iraq. If I'm Mubarak, I'm watching my back.

It could be Hamas....but they would be wiped out in retaliation...although they did say they were planning a huge operation.
They also think the US won't act because of the election season...but GWB won't care...if he for some reason loses Nov 2, he will clean up as much as he can before Jan.

Yeah, I could see entering with the injured for further terror as part of this evil plan. Isn't that what happened at the Russian school?
For what it's worth, Hamas has claimed credit.

As if there's much distinction amongst islam's armies.
its a very real possibility. Israel must take all steps necessary to protect their citizens. I would not be suprised if Israel didnt slip in some special forces with their emergency personnel in order to hunt down these terrorists. When Israel warned them not to go to the Sinai, people should have listened!!!
I stayed at the Luxor Hilton and the Cairo Hilton a few years back. They had a lot of heavily armed "Tourist Police" out front... but obviously they weren't much of a deterrant here.
