Posted on 10/06/2004 10:07:22 PM PDT by Old Sarge Ski

The seven Medals of Honor listed below were stolen from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society Museum located on the USS Yorktown at Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, on the night of June 27-28, 2004

Owen Hammerberg: Navy, World War II John Mihalowski: Navy, Peacetime 1923/1939 John Wilson: Army, Civil War Donald Truesdell: USMC, 2nd Nicaraguan Campaign Brent Woods: Army, Indian Campaign Hans Hansen: Navy, Boxer Rebellion Leslie Bellrichard: Army, Vietnam

In the early-morning of June 28th, a custodian noticed that the large class case containing the medals had been broken into and the medals were missing. He alerted museum officials who called the police. The FBI is monitoring on-line auction sites such as eBay and informing antique dealers in the area.

If anyone has information about the robbery or the metals, they should contact: Victoria Leslie Director of Operations Congressional Medal of Honor Society 40 Patriots Point Road Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29464

It's NEVER legal to sell a medal, is it? They remain property of the US government or something. Nobody should be buying medals for any reason.

Hang the scum who did it. Show no mercy. Let the crows pick their bones while they swing in the wind.

The comment belongs to anyone who wants it. We all know it fits Kerry's MO. Maybe Edwards took them in order to score brownie points with his Buddy.

no room left on his chest to place them

NO ROOM! His chest has more air in it than a Macy's Thanksgiving Parade Ballon from his 1% bounce from the debate last week. The SOB has room on the chest for the battleship as well as the medals.

It is legal to sell all US authorized medals EXCEPT those specifically prohibited by the DoD. There are, at present, only two of the 213 authorized decorations, honors and awards for the armed forces and such other non-military organizations as NOAA, NASA, DOT, Public Health Service, and Merchant Marine; the MEDAL OF HONOR and the DEFENSE OF FREEDOM MEDAL (authorized in 2001 and awarded to non-military personnel who are killed in action in the War on Terror) prohibited for sale. That being said the DoD is extremely vigilant in its enforcement on the sale of the prohibited items. Several years ago now, Lordship Inc. was caught selling 300 excess MOHs on a contract overrun. The fines imposed [as I recall, $ 350,000 per EACH MOH] bankrupted the company and its inventory and assets were sold at government auction
