... Moreover, the IIS paper targeted a number of French individuals that the Iraqi's thought had close relations to French President Chirac, including, according to the Iraqi assessment, the offi cial spokesperson of President Chirac's re-election campaign, two reported "counselors" of President Chirac, and two well-known French businessmen. In May 2002, IIS correspondence addressed to Saddam stated that a MFA (quite possibly an IIS offi cer under diplomatic cover) met with French parliamentarian to discuss Iraq-Franco relations. The French politician assured the Iraqi that France would use its veto in the UNSC against any American decision to attack Iraq, according to the IIS memo.

From Baghdad's perspective, the MFA concluded that the primary motive for French continued support and cooperation with Iraq in the UN was economic. According to Tariq Aziz, French oil companies wanted to secure two large oil contracts; Russian companies not only wanted to secure (or lock in) oil contracts, but also sought other commercial contracts covering agricultural, electricity, machinery, food, and automobiles and trucks products. ....

Several bombshell revelations in the CIA's Iraq report that we're not hearing regarding France and Russia. The only news being reported is that the CIA says there's no evidence Iraq had WMD at the time we entered Iraq, although the CIA cannot say if WMD were transferred out of Iraq.

According to the Washington Post...

"Conservatives have been going after the alleged scandals in the U.N. Oil For Food program for months to focus on wrongdoing at the United Nations rather than the administration's use of weapons of mass destruction as the primary justification for launching a war to topple Hussein."

America needs to hear about this story. These are the people, after all, who will be the arbiters of Senator Kerry's Global Test.

... and yet France offered us the intel that Iraq was in hot pursuit of wmd's, while knowing better.

Why?
It's a real head scratcher.

getting us to invade Iraq by giving us false intel, confirmed by other nations... was an attempt to what?

make us look bad, lose face and status as the world's ONLY super power, or raise their stature in some way?

it makes no sense.
any ideas as to HOW France would benefit in their mastery of the EU from US invading Iraq?
Did they think we would lose or something?

Or was it the beginning of a larger scheme?
Was France IN on the attacks of 9/11 too?

Something is amiss as to WHY france and russia would feed us the false intel, get us to invade, cutting off their cash cows... and dooming their influence in the middle east, unless their is something else that they wanted us to be in the region for.

France and Russia preparing to nuke a major contingency of our fighting men and women? Waiting to see if we have new toys that would keep them from uniting to defeat us in their imaginary battle for supremecy of the planet?

ce va?

Russia via Putin reported to Bush a plot by Iraq to carry out a terrorist attack on America - not a WMD attack on America.

Russia Warned U.S. About Iraq, Putin Says

"After Sept. 11, 2001, and before the start of the military operation in Iraq, the Russian special services, the intelligence service, received information that officials from Saddam's regime were preparing terrorist attacks in the United States and outside it against the U.S. military and other interests," Putin said, according to RIA Novosti, the Russian news agency. "American President George Bush had an opportunity to personally thank the head of one of the Russian special services for this information, which he regarded as very important," the Russian president told an interviewer while in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan.

(Also Putin warned Bush a day or two before 9/11)

Two years ago, in an interview with British documentary makers after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Putin said he had personally warned Bush a day or two before the assaults that some kind of terrorist operation seemed to be in the works.

In that interview, as in his latest one, Putin did not specify where or when an attack was to have taken place. U.S. officials have said that the information provided by the Russians was not detailed enough for action to be taken.

-----------

Bush's grand error was not in fighting the war in Iraq but for how he sold it to the American people and the world. Yes, this administration mentioned half a dozen reasons - but the selling point was WMD - Why? Because those in the know thought it would be the fastest - quickest sell for the American people. They did not lie - they thought they were telling the truth about WMD - but because it became the main reason - it blinded them and let themselves be fooled. Problem with laying a chrage like WMD out on the table is that it is such a huge thing - you can never tweak your intel to update it and ratchet it down - you can ratchet WMD threats up in DC thinking but to ratchet the threat level down is political death.

If Iraq was sold in another way to the American people - Bush would be ahead in the polls by 10% points.

I was saying no in regards to Russia.

The Telegraph story is on shakey ground but it is a revision of history to think that Bush was dragged kicking and screaming into invading Iraq. They would have invaded Iraq regardless.

PS: Some say Israel was behind the false documents. Invading Iraq and removing Saddam does not benefit France - but it does benefit Israel.

UN Sanctions Under Fire Once Again
By Thalif Deen
Inter Press Service
October 4, 2000

France, China and Russia want sanctions lifted. But they cannot force the issue in the Security Council because the United States and Britain have threatened to veto it. Both the United States and Britain feel that Iraq should continue to be punished until either Pres. Saddam Hussein is ousted from power (which is not part of any U.N. resolution on sanctions) or all of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction (nuclear, biological and chemical) weapons are destroyed.
...........................................................

Wonder who dealt with Iraq ,sidestepping the sanctions and who sabatoged our efforts in the UN.

"Coalition of the bribed." Kerry is claiming that it is the OIF coalition when, in fact, it's France, Germany, China, and Russia. As usual, the libs make accusations against their political enemies when they're the worst offenders. Sheesh, this is every bit as bad as Klinton complaining about other people accepting bribes.

BTW, I wonder how much Klinton got. Don't even tell me that the Godfather didn't get a piece of the action. He got congressional approval to go to war against Iraq in 1998, then the plan was suddenly shelved with no explanation. He launched a few cruise missiles to shut everybody up, but that was it. What made do a 180 all of a sudden?
