IMO, it's worth noting that the traditions of individual freedom that have characterized the American experience have only ever been really entrenched in English speaking nations. Too bad those nations are giving them up.
The closest we've seen to a revival of those traditions in recent years was probably the Reagan presidency. That offers some hope that such a revival could be possible, perhaps even among hispanic and minority populations, since most men have some ability to cherish freedom.
However, politicians seem more apt to favor the "what can I do for you" approach as a method of garnering votes.
