Cheney proves his irrelevance (Boston Globe)
Boston Globe ^ | October 6, 2004 | Thomas Oliphant

Posted on 10/06/2004 11:02:17 AM PDT by traumer

THE COUNTRY doesn't need Dick Cheney any more. After his 90 minutes on the stage last night, it is clear he is no longer an essential person in politics and government. What he brings to the table are liabilities.

In debate against an opponent with the dangerously attractive attribute of freshness, Cheney paled -- literally. He's not special, it turns out. He doesn't know anything special, he hasn't done anything special, and for the future he doesn't offer anything special.

Cheney is now just another vice president who has had his hour on the stage without really mattering or making a difference. Four years ago, he had a glow of the Wizard of Oz about him, filling an obvious hole in his running mate's background; last night, Cheney was just the grumpy old man behind the curtain.

In presidential campaigns, that is the key to the veeps. They matter if they add something major, help solve a big problem, or provide the second element of a coalition. They are usually more important on the way into office than after they've been there, and last night was no exception.

I didnt bother to read the whole article but it started off sounding like some guy's blog in the hugeness of the internet. His claims lacked foundation and is noticably rah rah after Edwards bad performance. I have a blog...why cant I get paid to sound like an idiot?

I love the smell of Dhimmie panic in the morning. The more they spin, the greater an admission of defeat. Gotta love it!

This IS John F*ckin's hometown newspaper. Thomas Oliphant wasn't watching the same debate the rest of us were. More evidence of how deep in the tank the mainstream media is for Kerry. So much so they've literally become the Deadwards' Campaign transcript service.

Thomas Oliphant seems to me that your description is of yourself ... a grumpy, BITTER, old man that works for an equally irrevelevent paper, the Boston Globe.

Oliphant has been following Kerry around for decades like star crazed groupy. Oliphant is not right in the head. I think he has desires for manlove with Kerry. And yes, there is something wrong with that.

Watching the debate, I thought, "Which one would you want to walk down a dark alley with?"

The guy that looks like the appliance salesman at Sears, Edwards, the metrosexual, would run screaming awaylike a little girl, wouldn't he?

There is nothing in this article that I can find that indicates he heard the debate BEFORE it was written. My guess is he wrote this well before 9:00 pm est. Anyway for Freepers to check it out ?

More of Thomas Sycophant's wishful thinking. I expect that his eyes were too focused on Kerry's rear end, in which his nose was firmly planted to actually watch the debate.

Cheney wiped up the floor with Edwards. All Edwards could do was flutter his tiny little hands, grab his fingers, and flop his tongue around the inside of his mouth.

Cheney showed he has been doing some serious thinking about war in the 21st century. Edwards is an ambitious little twit and nothing more. It reflects badly on Kerry's judgment that he picked such a manifestly unqualified person to potentially be a heartbeat away from the presidency in these dangerous times.
