FACSIMILE MEMORANDUM
To: Mary Mapes, CBS Evening News
FAX - 212-975-1893
From: Doug XXXXX xxxxxxxxxx
Date: Oct. 6, 2004
re: VVAW; Senator assassination vote
Mary:
Your boss claims to not be biased. Fair enough. But actions speak louder than words. You chased a story for five years intended to do harm to the President.
Let's see how unbiased you are. Let's see how balanced you are. On Nov. 12-15, 1971 the Vietnam Veterans Against the War met in Kansas City. They ultimately moved the meeting to a Mennonite flophouse because they were worried about FBI bugs. Until a few months ago, Senator Kerry denied being there. Witnesses placed him there and his campaign spokesman finally commented that it was "an interesting historical footnote."
At that meeting, the VVAW reportedly had a debate and a vote on whether to assassinate several U.S. Senators who supported the war.
To his credit, Kerry resigned his leadership position. But I can find no reference that he reported a conspiracy to assassinate senators to any law enforcement agency.
Surely, you must realize that this is a huge story. Surely, a TV news producer who is interested in the news, not merely a partisan agenda, would do this story.
Reporter Tom Lipscomb will be overjoyed to provide the roadmap for you. He can be reached at xxxxxxxxxx. Or would you like him to call you?

PS Coincidentally, this memorandum has been created in Times New Roman font.
I believe some of the FBI documentation verifies it. That is one reason why he could not continue lying about it.
