DEMOCRATS PUSH
DRAFT IN CONGRESS
President Bush Opposes Draft And Republicans
Will Ensure Defeat Of Bill, Kerry Open To Idea
____________________________________________________
JUST WHO IS PROPOSING A DRAFT?
Democrat Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY) Introduced The Universal National Service Act Of 2003 To Reinstate Military Draft. A BILL To provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes. (H.R. 163, Introduced 1/7/03 By Rep. Charles Rangel)
ü Today, House Of Representatives Will Vote On Rangels Proposal, Which House Armed Services Chairman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) Vows Will Receive Very Little Congressional Support. Later today, the House of Representatives will debate and vote on H.R. 163, the Universal National Service Act commonly known as the Reinstate the Draft Bill. There is very little Congressional support for reinstating the draft. (House Armed Services Committee, House To Vote On And Reject Military Draft Bill, Press Release, 10/5/04)
Democrat Senator Ernest Hollings (D-SC) Has Introduced Identical Military Draft Legislation. A BILL To provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes. (S. 89, Introduced 1/7/03 By Sen. Ernest Hollings)
KERRY AND EDWARDS CLAIM ITS REPUBLICANS WHO
WANT DRAFT, BUT KERRY IS OPEN TO DRAFT
Kerry Raised Possibility Draft Is Returning Under Bush. Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, citing the war in Iraq and other trouble spots in the world, raised the possibility Wednesday that a military draft could be reinstated if voters re-elect President Bush. Answering a question about the draft that had been posed at a forum with voters, Kerry said: If George Bush were to be re-elected, given the way he has gone about this war and given his avoidance of responsibility in North Korea and Iran and other places, is it possible? I cant tell you. (Mary Dalrymple, Kerry Raises Possibility That Military Draft Could Return If Bush Is Re-Elected, The Associated Press, 9/22/04)
Edwards Hinted Draft Would Return Under President Bush. Edwards drew his biggest applause from the audience, which was heavy on union members and laid-off workers, when he responded to a question from a woman who said that her 23-year-old son recently graduated from college, and that she is worried about a draft being instituted for the war in Iraq. There will be no draft when John Kerry is president, Edwards said, to applause and a standing ovation. (Jim VandeHei, Kerry Accuses Bush Of Dishonesty On Iraq, The Washington Post, 9/16/04) Yet Kerry Told Reporter That If Large Mobilization Is Needed, Draft Is Only Fair Way To Do It. REPORTER: Senator, some in your party have called for reinstating the draft. Do you think that is a good idea? KERRY: Not at this moment. I don't. If we had a need for a general mobilization at some time in the future, then I think that's the only fair way to do it. (WLVI's Keller At Large, Interview Taped 12/2/03, Aired 9/26/04) ADMINISTRATION HAS BEEN CLEAR:
PRESIDENT BUSH OPPOSES DRAFT
Secretary Rumsfeld Called Allegations Absolute Nonsense. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld heatedly denied yesterday that the military plans to bring back the draft and boost reserves and National Guard callups after the November election. That is absolute nonsense, Rumsfeld told the Senate Armed Services Committee. Its absolutely false that anyone in this administration is considering reinstituting the draft. (Richard Sisk, No Draft, No Extra Troops Rummy, [New York] Daily News, 9/24/04)
Vice President Cheney Said Rumors Were Hogwash. And the notion that somebodys peddling out there that there is a secret plan to reinstitute the draft, hogwash, not true. (NBCs Nightly News, 9/29/04)
President Bush: We Dont Need The Draft. No, were not going we dont need the draft. Look, the all-volunteer Army is working.
I know Senator McCain and I agree on this issue for certain, the all-volunteer Army works. (President George W. Bush, Remarks At Okaloosa-Walton College, Niceville, FL, 8/10/04)
This needs to be in the MSM!
What I'm I saying??????
Ooops! Sorry. Must be light headed from all the DEM spin!
Greetings, fellow Freepers, lurkers, Patriots, and all USA-loving folks!
This is the new media speaking, and we are growing faster than a pond full of guppies. The old media is deadthey just dont know it yet. But they are starting to sense it, and are panicking.
The genie is out of the bottle. The internet now has hundreds of millions of fact-checkers, lie detectors, and cool brainiacs in their pajamas, laughing our butts off at the lame attempts of the journalism majors on TV to spin things their way.
The media wing of the democrat party is dying. CBS, ABC, NBC, all except FOX are tanking in their ratings, losing money, and dying a slow, welcome death.
Who broke the Dan Rather phony document story? One of our braniacs here, in pajamas, Buckhead. The th heard round-the-world ignited blew Dan out of the water in a couple of hours.
For those of you new here, this is not uncommon. Free Republic has over 100,000 registered users, and a whole lot more than that come here every day. We have scientists, brilliant PhDs, gun owners, good-ole-small business owners, Capitalists, meat-eaters, and some of the most brilliant in the media. Yes, they lurk here, too. They know that Free Republic breaks stories faster, and more accurately, than any site, or any media, in the world.
Thanks to Jim Robinson, the founder. He was sick of the Clinton lies and crimes, and did something about it. He started this site. At first it barely survived, and Jim put his money where his mouth is. He almost lost his house. Some of us early folks here remember mailing checks in, to keep it running. We knew how important this place is, and now the world knows.
Feel like throwing a brick through your TV every time you watch CNN? Do something about it. Dont just lurk, jump in with us. Become part of history, and tell your grandkids you were one of the early supporters. Yes, this is early. Very early. Believe it or not, this site is only 6 years old. When you look back in 20 years, you will be proud to have been a part of the founding.
Please join us, and contribute. Do it by credit card. Become a monthly donorjust send $3 a month. Thats all it takes. Think your $3 a month wont make a difference? You are wrong. It makes all the difference in the world. Just like this site. And when you see your name on the monthly donor list, you will feel so proud! Its amazing how it lifts you up, to know that you are making a difference.
I know that for some of you, even that small amount hurts. Ive been there, believe me. But when you see that line item in your credit card bill every month, you will smile from ear-to-ear, and know that you are actually making a difference in this screwed-up world.
Come on in, and join us, and lets change the world!
This is an attempt by the Democrats to do the equivalent of the "Daisy Ad" of 1964. Once that ad got its legs from the networks, no amount of PR could save Goldwater from the smear. The Democrats are trying to smear Bush with the threat of a draft that they are actually creating.
Run a full page add in every major newspaper with the names of the democrats that vote for the draft.
It will backfire big time!
That asshat Charlie Rangel sponsored this bill in an effort to embarrass the administration- beacuse he said "rich kids" weren't pulling their fair share and "poor kids" were doing all the fighting in Iraq
(in our all-volunteer forces? d'oh)
Now that it has come up for vote, "180-degree Charlie" Rangel is planning to vote AGAINST IT because "the republicans are playing politics".
Why don't they just put it up for a vote? It would be grand political theater.
I think they are putting it up for vote...
Of course, while the proposal remains, the language has changed. So much for taking Kerry at his word when he says "see my website".
F. Democrats and be sure to tell the young voters about Kerry's own "drafted" service:
Democrats and the Draft: Kerry Advocates Mandatory Service to Graduate from High School
We might need one if Kerry is elected. I know a lot of people won't enlist or re-up with him as CIC.
It's about time.
As I've said in other posts on this site since May, the GOP has been totally asleep at the switch on the Democrats' efforts through e-mail disinformation campaigns to insinuate that Bush and the GOP want to bring back the draft.
Edwards too: http://www.senate.gov/~edwards/issues/educ/service.html
You left out a key phrase "VOTE AGAINST HIS OWN BILL". I know you implied it but worth spelling out.
