I ran the Boston Marathon in 1980 and my time was 2:51 minutes. Everyone that runs knows their exact time and the year they run.

Yeah, and you have a photograph of yourself at the finish line with the time. No one runs the Boston Marathon without a photograph of themselves performing the feat, much less a politician from MA who re-enacted in 8 mm his Vietnam derring do.
