FORT WORTH, Texas -- A bus driver for country singer Toby Keith is recovering Tuesday morning after being shot on a North Texas highway.
George Hampton told NBC 5 he was driving up Interstate 35 Monday night when a single bullet pierced the bus. Hampton said he didn't know where the shot came from or why he was targeted.
Carrollton police have said they do not believe this is a case of road rage.
Hampton was heading north toward Oklahoma, wrapping up the last leg of a long trip from Florida, near the George Bush Tollroad when the shooting happened.
"The bus was going northbound in the middle lane, the bus driver stated a shot rang out from outside hit the side of the bus, went in and hit the bus driver in the left leg," said Sgt. Dave Sponhour, Carrollton Police Department.
There were three other people on the bus, but no one else was injured. Hampton was transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.
Police in Carrollton are asking anyone with information to notify authorities.
Where are the Dixie Chicks touring right now?
I believe a Cleveland Indians pitcher was shot in Kansas City while on a team bus a few days ago.
...near the George Bush Tollroad...
I don't think it was road rage, either.
This is so bizarre.
Yes, I immediately thought about that incident. Jim Rome was talking about it a few days ago. A guy sitting on a bus suddenly realizes he's shot. How weird is that?
I live right on 75 North about a mile from the High Five. Saturday nights are the worst. Police chases, kids firing guns off from thier cars.
Weird is the perfect word to describe it. Why if that fellow hadn't been wearing those cheerleader boots....
"It's time the long arm of the law put a few more in the ground".
ping
That was my first thought too!
Hope he was wearing his cheerleader outfit!
What's wrong with these people?
Once again... It's All Bush's Fault!
I've never been shot, but apparently it's not that weird to not realize it if you are. I have a friend who, while in high school, found a gun and was playing around with it when it went off. Everyone flinched, startled, but soon were expressing wonder about where the bullet went and glad no one got hurt.
It was about 10 seconds later my friend started feeling a burning in his leg and noticed the blood.
Okay, Dallas cops...everyone out of the Dunkin' Doughnuts and hit the mean streets!
Bush tollroad. This would never have made the papers if there hadn't been a way to associate a crime with Bush. It was Bush's fault.
No, actually, I'm sure Sarah Brady will tell us it was the gun's fault. Those Texas guns just go off shooting people all the time, all on their very own--I sometimes hear stupidity like this from the few California relatives I still speak to.
Sounds like it's time for the boys on the bus to be armed.
The area in question is generally suburban, not urban or rural. Not a "bad" area at all. However its not far south I-35 to the land of the Hispanic gangs, 7-10 miles maybe. No telling where the shooter came from, or how long he/they had been tailing the bus.
