Nice Systems aids security at the famous American landmark using its smart video solutions, Israel21c reported.
The Ra'anana-based company has been working with the U.S. Park Police responsible for the site’s security, and installed its technology throughout the complex prior to its re-opening two months ago. The Nice solution uses IT-grade video networking and management, delivering images and advanced analytic applications to the park police to help protect the 117-year-old national monument.
The Statue had been closed to tourists since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and was reopened amidst warnings of further terror attacks on strategic buildings and monuments in New York and Washington, DC.
Some of the new security measures include a bomb-detection device that blows a blast of air into clothing and then checks for particles of explosive residue.
Another example of Israeli expionage.
I say we let the terrorists take out the Statue of Liberty. Then we can replace it with a statue twice as tall, of Ronald Reagan (preferably wearing a cowboy hat).
I wouldn't go so far as to say this is Israeli espionage, but I do have to question the logic of having an Israeli company do the security, rather than either an American company or a neutral company. Seems to me anyone who is against us in the war on terror is also against Israel, and now we've set up a double target. Just a theory.
Our enemies would love to hit the Statue of Liberty. Who is providing security wouldn't be an issue.
I just don't think we need to make it a more inticing target by having Israelis do the security. Why can't we do it ourselves?
You'd have to ask the Park Service. I know nothing about the technology being used here, but they're protecting against the kind of threat Israel deals with on a daily basis, in grocery stores and restaurants. It doesn't surprise me that the Park Service might turn to an Israeli firm. I really don't think terrorists are choosing targets based on who might be contracting to do the security. They'd love to attack the Statue of Liberty regardless of who the contractors were.
I guess I can see the logic when you put it in terms of guarding against the same kinds of attacks they face at home -- I guess it still just makes me nervous though. I'm going to Ellis Island next Tuesday for the first time in about 15 years, and I am really looking forward to it. I don't think we'll get over to Liberty Island but it will be great to see the Lady so up close, even though growing up in NJ and living now in NY, I see her a lot.
About this security thing, I guess I am just a typical nervous New Yorker. I was very very stressed out during the RNC, didn't take the subway, and didn't sleep well knowing I live right near several major hotels, including The Plaza. I'm sure lots of big names were staying at all of these hotels, and The Plaza was just purchased by an Israeli company, so I thought it wouldn't be a surprising target. Plus the subway runs right under the building, so I was just nervous overall. Hopefully W is keeping us safe and we have nothing to worry about! If Kerry wins the election, I'm moving to the moon.
We have to use the best security companies in the world, and if Israel fits the bill, so be it. We can't let terrorists dictate who we do buiness with.
Giving money to an American company that hires American workers would be nicer.
