Kerry follows Dole model

Since the early stages of his presidential campaign, John Kerry has worked to inspire Democratic voters by linking his candidacy to the legacy of John F. Kennedy and the halcyon days of America's political Camelot.
More recently, Republicans have compared Kerry with Michael Dukakis, the Massachusetts presidential candidate whose most memorable event on the campaign trail was the attempt to prove his military credentials by posing on a U.S. Army tank.
Kerry's personal biography clearly gives him much more standing from which to debate national security matters.
But identifying the strongest political parallel to Kerry's candidacy requires traveling far beyond the borders of Massachusetts to his professional home for the last two decades, the floor of the United States Senate.
As Kerry struggles to convince voters to remove an incumbent president from office, his effort has begun to bear a striking resemblance to Bob Dole's.
Another long-time senator and decorated war veteran, Dole waged the unsuccessful campaign to unseat another incumbent president in 1996.
As you may have heard at some point over the last several weeks, John Kerry served in Vietnam.
As was the case eight years ago, when Republicans believed that Dole's status as a war hero would form a compelling contrast to Bill Clinton's lack of service, Kerry's supporters were confident that their candidate's record in Vietnam would work to his strong advantage when compared to the wartime choices of George W. Bush.
Like Dole, Kerry framed his candidacy around his war record from the beginning. Like Dole, he appeared with fellow veterans at campaign events and pointed to the lessons learned in combat as a defining experience in his life.
But like Dole, Kerry has been unable to persuade voters that an admirable record of military service automatically translates into relevant preparation for the Oval Office.
Be fair to Kerry. He has talked about any number of domestic and foreign policy matters over the course of the campaign, just as Dole did. But when given the chance to introduce himself to the national electorate at this summer's Democratic convention, Kerry chose to illuminate his candidacy almost entirely by his military accomplishments.
Not surprisingly, post-convention polls showed that Americans' personal regard for Kerry had grown significantly as they learned the details of his service.
But because voters learned little about Kerry's plans for the future, that respect did not translate into popular support for his campaign.

Thanks for crosslinking! :-)
Does anyone have a complete listing of the crimes the Hari Kerry has committed?
It's easy to determine sKerrys future moves, first move the White House to Paris, then...
That picture makes me wanna barf.
I dont believe those liberal leaning polls.
Uh huh. Kerry should worry about fixing the air valve on his cheek. It's looking very angry.
hahahaaaa! Like Bush said. Kerry needs to finish the debate he's havin' with himself ! :^D
The same holds true for his advertising staff.
F. Democrats.
We also know from a Larry King interview what John Edwards would do. Run away from his job and go home. The DC police came to get him into protective custody with other congressmen.
Point well taken, Dr. Weegee. I stand corrected.
"Passing the global test" can not be spun for anything other than it is. It's totally self explanatory!
That's about where he got full of himself in the debate and stepped in it bigtime. That one and giving the Iranians nuclear fuel (so they can build a nuke even faster I guess).
Ever notice how this guy has to explain everything he says because it sounds so stupid to begin with? "I voted for the 87 billion, before I voted against it".
