My kids went to private school until we moved into this excellent school district. The problem I saw with the private school district was that the administration was loath to deal with serious discipline problems. Suspension or expelling meant a monetary loss.

I have nothing against private schools, heck I spent 12 years in Catholiic schools, but understand exactly what you are saying. To have sent our daughter to private school where we used to live would have meant, at the least, me going back to work full time, and at worst having to get a second job to cover the expenses of after school care so I could work full time to pay the tuition bills.

It was a vicious cycle that we did not want to get caught up in. And my husband was adamant in his opposition to the school district we lived in, as it was the same one he went to and as bad as it was 30 years ago, it has gone down hill since.

So we started exploring schools and districts in the 3 state region my husband's job takes him prior to her becoming of school age. We found one and moved.
