Texas is pretty newly conservative. Remember, we produced LBJ, Martin Frost, Molly Ivins, Jim Hightower, Paul Begala and Jim Wright. In small town Texas, most of the over 65 crowd are Democrats, but they don't really realize what the Democrats have become.

Yep and that is why most Democrats running for reelection are running as "conservative" Democrats. The massive number of Chet Edwards commercials tell everyone how he is conservative, pro-military, and "stands with President Bush". Because of the senior vote, he'll probably win.

On a side note:
I believe very strongly that there has to be somebody who would be willing to help form a town paper by the townspeople, not outsiders.
Tal to people and see what they think. I attend a college in which the local paper of the town of 2,000 is a weekly with a very small staff, but it is run by local people. It seems to me that even though it is much smaller, it could be done in Crawford, too....surely someone would invest.
