WASHINGTON - The Bush administration won't require hospitals to ask emergency room patients their immigration status.
The move comes in response to protests from hospitals and advocates for immigrants.
Hospitals and immigrant groups say the questions would make people afraid to seek care and lead to serious public health problems.
Last year's Medicare prescription drug law includes one (b) billion dollars for hospitals that treat undocumented immigrants and absorb most of that care.
To get the money, hospitals would have to ask about citizenship and how people entered the country to make sure the money was spent on emergency services for undocumented immigrants.
Critics say people would stay away from E-Rs rather than provide information that could be used against them in deportation proceedings.
How about providing free tranport for illegal-alien ER patients as soon as they're stabilized, so they can receive free treatment in their own country's hospitals?
These stories really burn me...
Of course note. I know this frost the hard right but think about it! Guy comes into an ER suffering and you want to check his status? What are you going to do Refuse him care if he is an illegal? Get real, I am surprised this is even a "news" story

Well you can pay for his service.
When your local ER or trauma center closes up shop you might change your tune.
We always back down when someone yells loud enough - no matter the right or wrong of it -
One answer would be to yell back -
Another would be to remain silent -
How much you want to bet that silence will rule the day - as always -
Oh well, we get what we deserve sometimes by not stopping harmful activities before they go out of control - the illegals have a very strong vocal voice - and it is that voice that controls the policy in this nation -
Plus add in fear of the PC crowd - because they control a lot of powerful areas also - even the highest level of government -
just my thoughts -
Medical personel has too much paperwork interfering with patient care as it is. Let's not complicate that further.
Stop giving them medical care!
Stop giving them public school access!
Stop giving them jobs!
Eventually they stop coming, because they cant survive.
I don't see how the Federal Government could be allowed to make such an order in the first place.
But if we stop handing them goodies, then how will we achieve the BushClintonKerry dream of a merged USAMexico?
The problem is everyones blind, W is a LIB.
If the hospitals keeps eating bills there won't be any helicoptors.
Everytime I read stories like these I think what a chump I am. I pay all my own health insurance. I'm now selling my mom's house to help her, and these people come here and get everything for free--AND--NO QUESTIONS ASKED!
HOW STUPID IS THIS!!!
It's been done.
On this issue, there is no difference between Democrats and Republicans. As a matter of fact, Bush is probably further left than most.
From the article:
Last year's Medicare prescription drug law includes one (b) billion dollars for hospitals that treat undocumented immigrants and absorb most of that care. It's like how the federal government exercises unconstitutional control over many things, like your local public school: dangle money, and say what you gotta do to get itTo get the money, hospitals would have to ask about citizenship and how people entered the country to make sure the money was spent on emergency services for undocumented immigrants.
Pretty Stupid.
Use the ER as your primary care physician until reform is forced.
Of course, the probable outcome to this will be that you are refused care if it is proven that you are a citizen.
No hospital would turn away a medical emergency, even if it were legal to do so, and it's not.
Like I said before, Then you pay the bill.
As long as their(illegals) voice is heard - that is easier said than done. No party(Socialist Democrats or Republicans) wants to do anything - it's the PC thing of it, I believe -
Americans are on their own with this one - no member of Congress has enough power to move on this - it's the PC thing of it, I believe
Is there a way to get the media going on it - ? Doubt it, because it's the PC thing of it, I believe
just my thoughts - take care now
