Frost Urged To Refund Fund-Raiser Money

DALLAS (September 30, 2004 07:45 PM EDT) - Democratic Rep. Martin Frost on Thursday offered to refund contributions to an October fund-raiser after canceling the appearance of Peter Yarrow over the folk singer's 1970 child indecency conviction.

Yarrow, a member of the group Peter, Paul and Mary, was convicted of "taking indecent liberties" with a 14-year-old girl in 1969. President Carter pardoned him in 1981.

Frost said in a statement that "crimes against children are very serious offenses. ... I do not believe it is appropriate for Mr. Yarrow to campaign on my behalf."

Frost, who faces Republican Rep. Pete Sessions for a Dallas-area congressional seat in November, often mentions his role in Amber Alert and anti-child abduction legislation.

Frost's campaign initially said he wouldn't return the money already raised for the Oct. 11 event, which will still be held. The ticket prices ranged from $250 to $1,000.

But after Sessions called it wrong of him to keep money raised using Yarrow as the attraction, Frost issued a statement Thursday afternoon allowing contributors to request refunds.

Frost also gave contributors the option of attending two other fund-raisers in October or "simply dedicate their contribution to the effort to defeat Pete Sessions."

Sessions' spokesman said just offering refunds isn't enough.

"He should just be writing the checks out to those folks," spokesman Chris Homan said. "He's not making a legitimate attempt to get rid of the money that he raised based on the appearance of a child molester."

Yarrow has been active in politics and other social causes for years. He appeared in Iowa for John Kerry before the presidential primaries.

E-mail and phone messages left for Yarrow late Thursday were not immediately returned.

I caught this in the Chicago Sun Times, on page 49, but it wasn't on the online version. So I googled around, and here it is.

Very interesting story.

Frost needed to run a perfect campaign and have Sessions screw the pooch to have a chance at winning.

We're WAY past that point now, ha ha ha ...........

They are asking a Democrat to actually give back money? Even if he does it, you've got to know Rep. Frost's sides are currently aching from laughing so hard at the suggestion.

The Socialist Democrats sure know how to pick them -

Makes you wonder why people of this nature seem so attracted to this party - birds of a feather, perhaps - ?

It makes me sick. There is no such concept as "character" or "decency" in that party.

They like their plans - and there is no room in the plans for those words - plus many others -

They especially detest "obey" - as in obey the rules -

just my thought - take care now

Notice the pardon from Carter in 1981. Carter was only President for 19 days in 1981 having, thankfully, been defeated by Reagan the previous November. I'll bet this was another last-minute pardon to shady scum not unlike his buddy Clinton exactly 20 years later.

I guess we should be grateful Yarrow was convicted of molesting the opposite sex.
