What nuclear facility in Iraq was Kerry saying we didn't secure?
Commission on Presidential Debates ^ | 9/30/2004 | John F. Kerry

"That's exactly where we find ourselves today. There's a sense of American occupation. The only building that was guarded when the troops when into Baghdad was the oil ministry. We didn't guard the nuclear facilities."

I looked for a thread on this, but didn't find one. I have never started a thread before on one of these sites. If I screwed up the protocol, please forgive my ignorance and accept my apology.

Kerry mentioned twice last night "nuclear facilites" in Iraq. What nuclear facilities?

Wasn't it a storage facility at al-Tuwaitha(sp)?

Tuwaitha Nuclear Research Center

You can't do everything at once. It would appear all the bad stuff was recovered.

You are spot on. It's been brought up and it's a doozie. I don't know if Rush covered this, but he repeated it TWICE (to my recollection).

I've been racking my brain about this, and as best I can remember, our forces secured the oil ministry buildings because there was a LARGE quantity of cash contained therein.....whereas the other offices had nothing of value.

Can anybody else remember, or confirm this?

The oil industry is Iraq's life blood - it's their whole economy. It would have been a major blunder if we had not secured these facilities - even without cash.

He’s half way telling the truth, as usual. I don’t recall the names, but there was a middle America local TV reporter who filed reports just after the fall of Baghdad that he rolled in with Marines to some nuclear facility had a secret underground facility and plutonium. Turns out that it was low level yellowcake, and the underground facility was well know by the UN. The yellowcake was also known by the UN, but had the UN seals ripped off by looters prior to the Marines rolling in.

Securing this facility wasn’t a top priority with us. Securing the oil fields was, so much so that we sent in Special Forces to take out Saddam’s demolition operations prior to the start of the war. It was an excellent decision and saved Iraq’s oil production capacity. Too bad that point wasn’t driven home, but high sight is 20-20.

Exactly. I was hoping that Bush would just have looked over at Kerry and said

"Senator, the Heck are you talking about???"

Thank you for starting a thread on this. I asked the same question on this thread earlier this morning:

link

Nobody had a clear answer.

Thanks for the clarification on wording. I thought he said plants. You quote "facilities". Note the plural. Implying that there could have been several scattered throughout the country.

Regardless of the facts, his intention was clearly to mislead and make our tactics and strategy appear inept.

There was some early AM discussion on the two Kerry mentions about NOT protecting the NUKE facilities when we moved on Baghdad/Iraq...only the "Ministry of Oil" building.

Can someone please remind me of the HTML code to make the above a link?

I thought the left was more concerned about saving the
art museum at any cost...
the widespread art looting story turned out to be BS too.

he pretty much did!

BUSH: Let me -- I'm not exactly sure what you mean, passes the global test, you take preemptive action if you pass a global test. My attitude is you take preemptive action in order to protect the American people, that you act in order to make this country secure.

We didn't guard the foreign office, where you might have found information about weapons of mass destruction. We didn't guard the borders.

This is evidence that Kerry knows that Saddam had WMDs.

Thanks elfman2 for your #9.

My five decade old brain is remembering some of those details now, but Kerry's twice mention seems strange.

With the Clintonoids controlling Kerry now, maybe that's why.

Israel bombed Iraq's nuke plants out of business. Evidently, Kerry doesn't know that. And .. one of the Israeli pilots was the Astronaut who was killed when the Columbia burned up on re-entry. You'd think Kerry would remember that since he's so into America's bad news.

Also .. the USA just sold bunker-buster bombs to Israel .. Hmmmm? Should Iran, Syria and NK be worried ..?? I sure hope so!!
