Kerry must either tell us why this war was a mistake and reconcile his previous conflicting statements or, in the tactical sense, criticize the present administration for allowing a stunning three-week victory to turn into a messy occupation. He must offer the American people clear correctives that suggest his initial support was wise and that the war deserved better execution.
In all fairness to Kerry, he attempted to do just that in the yesterday's debate. His point was that he can do better in executing the war in Iraq. On the negative side for him is that those who pay attention must wonder how long his firm stand will remain firm. His history of flip-flopping works strongly against him. On the positive side for him is the usual media bias that favors the democrats and will attempt to glide over his flip-flopping and present Kerry in the best possible way. They are just too happy to announce everywhere: hear! hear! he is firm on Iraq and will do better! hear! hear! Will voters believe them this time? I hope not.
