I agree. Bush was awful last night. I couldn't bear to watch it. It was as though he was trying to remember talking points and was not being himself.
When he DID speak off of the cuff, it was great. I thought he'd finally gotten into the swing of the debate, but then he went back to "uhmming" over the talking points again.
I think anyone here on the FR could have done a better job against Kerry. Kerry should have been verbally obliterated, not the other way around.

I agree with you. Bush missed a couple of opportunities to bury Kerry. When Kerry was grousing about France, Germany and Russia not being able to get contracts, why didn't Bush mention Oil for Food and the terrible scandal of their involvement? Bush did look tongue-tied repeating the same phrases over and over again. Bush could have done so much better.
President Bush is not an eloquent, powerful speaker. What he says, however, has weight and power. As a side note, I am contiually amazed that so many people these days cannot spot a LIAR when they hear one. Years ago it was much harder to fool the average American. Kerry could not have run for dogcatcher and got elected. The choice seems clear IMHO. Kerry is your New World Order candidate; America first with President Bush. "Out of the heart the mouth speaketh."
