Okay I can finally give my 2 cent's. This was a disaster for Bush -- you can spin it anyway you want but truth is truth. Bush stumbled and fumbled. His refusal to challenge Kerry made him look as if he couldn't come up with anything original to say. If this debate was supposed to be Bush's strongest area then he's in real serious trouble with 2 more debate especially with a townhall and domestic issues coming up.

Bush didn't lose any core votes tonight but he didn't win any either. My gut feeling all along said tonight would be a disaster for Bush and I was right(not that that make me feel any better --in fact I'm just heartbroken over it). When the polls come out; if Bush has lost 5-6 points my gut tells me this election is over. In fact I think Bush may have lost it tonight.

Bash me all you want to but in all reality Bush looked a lot like his dad did in '92 trying to fighting off Clinton --and that didn't go well. Not saying he was disengaged but he just didn't defend himself very well. And Kerry lied just like Clinton did in 1992 but the perception is what killed Bush 41 and it may very well do in 43.

I pray I'm dead wrong but as Luke Skywalker would say, "I have a bad feeling about this."

The president didn't hit a homerun and he may have taken more than he dished out, but it was far from a disaster.

My, my. Such pessimism. A disaster for Bush? Are you really serious? What do you think of Kerry's "global test"? What do you think most of the voters are going to think about it?

The Pres is a lot smarter and sharper than most here at FR.

He recognised that the major gaffe in tonights deabte was Kerry's "Global Test" which he called him on immediately.

Rememeber those words, "Global Test", you'll be hearing them a lot very soon.

GHWBush lost because he seemed disinterested in domestic affairs and because of the "Red my lips."statement on n new taxes.

This Bush ,"W", is totally engaged in fighting the war and is also connecting with the people.

I disagree. The President is certainly not the most articulate public speaker in a debate setting. He'll never win on rhetorical points. But he is sincere and authentic in a way his opponent will never be. Kerry could NOT knock down Bush and this is the centerpiece of his fall campaign. Bush held his ground and never wavered. No one got the sense Kerry told us how he would do things differently from Bush or laid out his plans. Certainly the Democrat is an accomplished debater. But as far as substance goes, he can't explain himself well enough to connect to average Americans in the heartland. And that "Global Test" comment he made late in the debate is a big loser. I don't know of a single sane person in this country who thinks our foreign policy should subordinated to the UN and co-ordinated with the French. President Bush is not a guy who seeks to dominate an opponent with brute force; he is much more subtle in going under the radar. When all is said and done, Kerry did not do anything to shake up the race to propel himself into the lead. He had to knock the President out to accomplish it and didn't get it done. This first debate was the toughest of the three and Bush survived. Considering the mainstream media is in the tank for Kerry, it went about as well as we could have expected. For what its worth, the only way Bush can lose the election now is if he does a Howard Dean meltdown down the road or is caught sleeping with a live boy or dead girl. In the final analysis, I think Kerry was better than people anticipated but it doesn't change my vote and I suspect it won't change the direction of the polls. We'll see.

Sigh...this is getting tiresome. Please, take a look at this page from the GWBush campaign site:

http://www.georgewbush.com/debatefacts/Debate.aspx?stamp=9/30/2004%209:20:35%20PM

You will see a thorough listing and debunking with video clips, Kerry's own words etc. of the LIES he told while in the debate tonight. The New Media will be all over this tomorrow, and I hear that some of the old media is scrutinizing Kerry's "facts" even tonight.

And please, give the American public an iota of credit to be able to recognize BS when they see it.
