I'm afraid so. For those who understand the facts and are truly informed on this issue, as most here are, the debates themselves are moot. The point is how this will come of the the swing voters who get their news from Dan Rather sound-bites, MTV, or the Daily Show. From that purely objective point of view I think this one will go in favor of Kerry's numbers.

I share your concern. Kerry was inconsistent in his answers to a few questions, but Lehrer didn't call him on it and nor did GWB; I suspect many viewers probably didn't notice.

Greetings: We know the Kerry camp is going to try to spin their way out of a debate loss tonight. In fact, to encourage you – I’ve included the message the Kerry campaign has put out to their supporters below. Let’s beat them to the punch and demonstrate the machine of the Bush-Cheney grassroots organization.

As soon as the debates are over (or while they are going on), we encourage you to write letters, call talk radio/tv, vote in online polls and participate in Web blogs.

To help you, visit our letter writing and talk radio center, it includes templates and contact information (and will even do it for you):

I know a lot of Freepers bemoaned the fact that Lehrer was moderating. However, I think that he was fair to the President and that his questions were good. You couldn't expect questions for this "foreign policy" debate to be easy or watered down, especially with all that is happening in Iraq. I think Bush missed some opportunities allowed by Lehrer's questions and Kerry's responses.
