I think everybody should read this! Very compelling case being made in his usual frisky prose.

It's always good to be reminded exactly why we're doing the right thing.

LOL! I'm getting there.....you don't unbrainwash yourself from 30 years of social conditioning over night. I'll tell you one thing though, 9-11 changed me forever. It was like being jolted out of a dream. Thank God I have unpplugged myself from the 'Matrix' that the Liberals created for me. The only thing that will ensure Canada's survival is the fact that we live next to the U.S. Canucks with egos don't like to hear that, but it's the truth.

Congratulations. And welcome!

The only thing that will ensure Canada's survival is the fact that we live next to the U.S.

Truer words... Can you imagine what Canada would be like if we were, say, in the middle of Africa, but with the government policies of the last 35 years? Without the lovely economic giant next door? We'd be a pathetic mess of a Third World backwater. But possibly we'd be less smug.

The silliest thing Dick Cheney has ever said was a couple of weeks after 9/11: ‘One of the things that’s changed so much since September 11 is the extent to which people do trust the government — big shift — and value it, and have high expectations for what we can do.’

Was Cheney talking about the failure of our government to protect its citizens? Oh yeah, lots of trust in the Feds after 9/11. That is a stupid comment.

Ok, didn't realise you were Canadian as well. I agree with you whole heartedly. So maybe there's 3 smart Canadians left. We have our work cut out for us, hoser. ;)

The real divide is between the neocons (for want of a better term) and the ‘assertive nationalists’ — that’s to say, those who think we ought to bomb rogue states, smash their regimes and rebuild them as democratic societies, and those who think we ought to bomb rogue states, smash their regimes, and then leave them to stew in their own juices, with a reminder that if the next thug is foolish enough to catch Washington’s eye, then (as Arnie says) ‘Ah’ll be back!’

Well, that certainly describes the split on FR. ROTFLMAO!

"The government can’t tell you you’ve got to be on full alert and at the same time announce new restrictions on the right to defend yourself and your home."

Absolutely, damn f'ing straight!!!

This difference can seem like a big deal — those who think we need to win their hearts and minds vs those who think they’re mostly heartless and mindless, so who cares? But in truth it’s only a difference of degree.

Dang that is a good line.

The article is full of them, but that one stands out.

Shalom.

Yes it was. In particular the example of how the federal agencies were useless on 9/11 and the local agencies priceless.

Mark has outdone himself!

Thank you for posting this, and for posting the full text. I hope that Steyn continues to pound on this path after the election; it would be wonderful to actually start seeing Republicans in congress acting like conservatives again.
