SIZING UP "THE WIVES OF"
THE WASHINGTON TIMES ^ | SEPTEMBER 30, 2004 | SUZANNE FIELDS

John and Teresa Heinz Kerry display a different kind of relationship. She complains that she gets bad press because she's "opinionated," but Americans are accustomed to opinionated women in at least 57 different varieties. A lot of American men are married to such women. The public image of the Kerry Heinz marriage reflects something else, a certain stiffness verging on awkwardness. Although he grew up in a wealthy environment, there's a quality of the nouveau riche in the various Kerry houses, an excessiveness that we didn't see in that earlier wealthy presidential first couple of JFK and Jackie.

Important angle to stress. Good comparison, although personally, had I been writing this article, I would have added a paragraph about the buzz concerning the probable explanation for Tuh-RAY-zuh's stumbling, ineven, unpredictable outbursts on the campaign trail. There was once a movie back in the 60's, called "Miss Reardon Drinks a Little." Mrs. Heinz-Kerry does, too, from some credible, eye-witness reports(Note Carl Limbacher in NewsMax.com archives: "Teresa: Where's The Bar?". . . . and might very well be a pill-popper. Voters should now start thinking about having such a loose-lipped, flippant, undisciplined, insouciant loosey goosey in the White House, one equipped with nearly a billion dollars with which to satisfy whatever whim might come wafting into her air-headed cranial space..........or what she'd casually decide to give away to Chinese or N. Korean or Iranian Motel 6 visitors in the Lincoln bedroom. A First Lady influenced by mind-altering substances could be influenced by foreign agendas. It's not only about spiking the afternoon tea in the Blue Room with Chivas Regal, to wash down some uppers. It's about being a National Security risk.

Quote:

"Laura Bush struck the right note when she characterized her husband with definite views about his responsibility as protector, and linked family values with the war against terror so that "all children can grow up in a more peaceful world." A man marries a woman, not a prospective first lady. But how a first lady projects her husband's message tells us as much about him as it does about her."

Laura Bush is likable Ter-ray-zuh is not. Ter-ray-zuh acts as if she is above it all while Mrs. Bush is down to earth.

I think it's fair to be concerned about Teresa's tendency to say whatever (marginally appropriate) thing flies out of her mouth. And certainly Laura, hands down, is the classier of the two.

Though there may be some hints that Teresa may like to know the locations of the bars, we need to be a little careful casting those particular stones. After all,we're in a bit of a glass house with Betty Ford having been there- done that. (not that I recall Betty being as impulsive as Teresa seems to be....)

[Teresa Heinz-Kerry] complains that she gets bad press because she's "opinionated"...

She doesn't get bad press because she's "opinionated," she gets bad press because she's coarse, uncouth, loud-mouthed, and an overall hag and (rhymes with witch).

Tah-RAY-Zah doesn't qualify as a First Lady. She qualifies as a frickin' train wreck.
