The planned Iraqi elections? Iran wants a twin theocracy in Iraq. What we are doing there is driving the mullahs nuts (nutier). The election in January is a big threat to their existence.

This needs to be done by January because if Bush is reelected(the Iranians are banking that he won't be) then come January when Kerry is innaugurated they have a negotiation tool.

If Kerry wins and there is no bomb, it is entirely possible that within the first week of being in office, Iran's reactor can be destroyed by the Israelis.

That reactor is going down one way or another.

Hell, I thought their participation over in North Korea testing warhead fuses did that already. That was just over a month ago. The only people buying that "peaceful" crap from the mullahs are the French and the Russians who are selling them this stuff. The Chinese are pulling the strings on the mullahpuppets. So much for the UN (In)Security Council taking any action.

It's looking like this time we'll have to "rush to war" and "go it alone". All from the air conditioned comfort of a Trident sub.

The only way out of glassifying Iran is if the demonstrations turn into a revolution that is successful.

Also see an attempt at moral equivalency in that Israel has well over 50 nukes. However, Israel is not bent on destroying its neighbors. The same cannot be said for the states that surround Israel, with the possible exceptions of Jordan and Egypt (on a good day).
Here's a proposition, the United States should declare the Middle East a nuclear free zone. With this declaration, United States should announce that an attack on Israel will be treated as an attack on the United States.
