OSLO, Norway, Sep. 28 (UPI) -- Basim Ghozlan, director of the Islamic Association in Norway, has defended suicide bombing under certain circumstances.
"If the war is legal, seen from an Islamic viewpoint, and if one has does not have the possibility to harm the enemy with other means than offering one's own life, then this is legal," Ghozlan said in reply on the Web site www.islam.no to a boy's question about suicide bombing, radio station Kanal 24 reported.

Maybe he can demonstrate the functionality of the newest edition of suicide jackets in an open field for us.
While I consider intentionally dying in a fight for your country or self protection very bad strategy, when used against soldiers in the field of battle such as the kamikazi's did in WWII. Then it is a legitimate tactic even though not very bright.
But when your goal is to get into civilian areas with the only possible result being to kill women, children and other non-combatants. Then it is not and will never be justified, only cowards would pursue a strategy like that.
And it's not comparable to bombing weapons factories and troop installations resulting in civilian casualties, If you only goal is to blow up the undefended or innocent you are sick.

Here, in a nutshell, is the problem. There is no "Islamic viewpoint". There are the million and three viewpoints espoused by self-appointed Mullahs, who gain power and influence depending on how many adherents they can attract. Who appointed Sadr? Who appointed Khomeni?
What Ghozlan is really saying is that murder and suicide are perfectly acceptable in Islam, as long as you can get some self-appointed cleric to decide it is a "jihad".
From a human viewpoint (which is not a Muslim viewpoint) this is a war crime.
