Wasps are very intelligent and have great eyesight. I had a nest on my sailboat one year. They didn't bother my regular crew but got agitated whenever a stranger came aboard. They would follow the boat until we got about a half mile away from shore and would meet us about that far out when we returned.

I had a nest above my front door. They wouldn't even spread their wings when I came home but if anyone else was with me they got agitated. They would attack anyone who wasn't with me.

I thought I was the only one. Quite a few years ago while working on my car I noticed a yellow jackets nest inside my garage. Being a bit of a procrastinator I put off destroying the nest. I guess they eventually got to know me and didn’t become agitated when I was around but if a stranger showed up the wasps let them know they were there. To bad it only lasted one summer. What a concept pet wasps. I wonder if you could train them to get the paper.
