The U.S. economy is estimated to grow only at a respectable but unexciting 4.4 percent, less than half the Chinese rate.

This must be terrifying to the Chinese leaders. Not only is such a rapid growth delta unsustainable, it will exacerbate the shock of the downturn. While it is true that the entire world economy will be slammed when the Chinese "bubble" bursts, it will pale by comparison to what happens in China. Mixing an economic shock of this magnitutde with an unstable social system is a recipe for incredible calamity.

The dotcom Kool-Aid drinkers have gone to China.

The Chinese have a demographic advantage that we can't dream of matching.

As for technology, they don't believe in IP so we must guard our secrets (but we don't).

They have 500 billion of our dollars and are actively purchasing all of the world's natural resource companies as we speak.

Now, who's going to prevail ?
