OK, guys and gals... I work for a Spanish newspaper in Southern California. My News Editor asked me last night to get abouth three Latino Republicans to come watch the debate in the Newsroom along with the Dems that for sure are coming. They would give their impressions and comments and the newspaper will print them on Friday, along with their picture. Can someone please help me on this one? I want to show that there are some Latinos out there who can think on their own and are NOT Rats! Please, freepmail me!
hello.
i think i fit your bill. but since i am in new jersey it might be hard. is your company willing to spring for airfare ?
I thought you had to be further up the food chain in the media to miss the obvious.
I saw this and was going to recommend a neat freeper named Mark....but then I guess you know him :o) Good luck!
I'd fly you myself if I could!!! Unfortunately, an airplane ticket is not in my budget for this week... and my wings would get a little tired with such a long flight. Thanks anyway!
i live in the Central Valley of California... too far away...

I'm Hispanic, not "Latino." If you ask for "Latinos" you are likely to get liberals. If you ask for "Hispanics" you are more likely to get independent/conservative.
Also too far away, up by Yosemite.
VIVA BUSH!
You should try Tim Escobar, who is running for Congress against Linda Sanchez. His website is http://www.timescobar.com/
Because I'm as lily white as you get without many hispanics/latinos living around me, can you explain the difference? Thanks.
Are you by any chance on the East Coast? For some weird reason, here on the "Left" Coast, Hispanic is a term which offends Latinos, Hispanics or whatever you wanna call'em. Why? Beats the caca out of me!
right here brother
I understand it's for your local paper, but since the election is a national one, and it appears you're looking for personal viewpoints on the debate and not trying to create a debate of your own, why do they have to be able to come there and watch? Just wondering why you can't just send out a questionaire.
Yes, it's local. In any story a newspaper runs it is the human component: emotions, thoughts and interaction that the editors are interested in, so in this specific case a questionaire won't cut it. We need the bodies there!
I snagged this from the 'net, and it pretty well explains it:

"Hispanic" or "Latino"?
Many terms are used to refer to the richly diverse Hispanic/Latino communities. No consensus has emerged among the Hispanic/Latino community on which term to use -- opinion and personal preferences vary. The use of these terms has become, in some parts of the United States, a political, social or even a generational issue.
The government adopted the use of the term Hispanic in the 1970s, and the U.S. Bureau of the Census used that term in the 1980 and 1990 Census, as it collected and reported data. Often, data that is reported by a government source uses the term Hispanic to refer to the population, and many data systems collect data using that as an ethnic category.
Over recent years, however, some government agencies have begun using the term "Latino." The word Hispanic is derived from España, or Spain. Opponents of its use state that Spanish conquistadores did away with much of the native cultures in Latin America, and that its use is not appropriate. The word Latino traces its roots back to ancient Rome and some say it's more inclusive of all Latin American countries such as Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and others.
A poll taken of Hispanics/Latinos in Texas, California and New York by a national Hispanic magazine reported that most preferred to be called Hispanic. (Hispanic Trends, 2000). Other terms commonly used include Chicano, Latin American, and Latin. Others prefer to use something that refers to the persons country of origin, such as Mexican American, or Mexican national, Puerto Rican, etc.

Personally, I don't have a problem with the Conquistadors or settlers from Spain, seeing as how I'm descended from them. I don't see how Mexican-Americans who are also descended from the Spanish could have a problem with the term "Hispanic". I think it's probably NE Liberal Elitist with no hispanic roots (such as John Kerry) that have a problem with the word "Hispanic".
I don't have a problem with that either. My own grandparents immigrated from Spain into the US at the beginning of the XX century...
My personal opinion is that, once you choose to come live in the US, you work here, you pay taxes here, you breath the air here, and so on, you are no longer Guatemalan, Mexican, Puerto Rican or whatever. But then, that's only me thinking out loud.
