GMA
John Kerry was apparently on Good Morning America and The Note snippets this baffling exchange:
DIANE SAWYER: Was the war in Iraq worth it?
JOHN KERRY: We should not have gone to war knowing the information that we know today.
DS: So it was not worth it.
JK: We should not it depends on the outcome ultimately and that depends on the leadership. And we need better leadership to get the job done successfully, but I would not have gone to war knowing that there was no imminent threat there were no weapons of mass destruction there was no connection of Al Qaeda to Saddam Hussein! The president misled the American people plain and simple. Bottom line.
DS: So if it turns out okay, it was worth it?
JK: No.
DS: But right now it wasn't?p>
JK: It was a mistake to do what he did, but we have to succeed now that we've done what he's I mean look we have to succeed. But was it worth as you asked the question $200 billion and taking the focus off of Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda? That's the question. The test of the presidency was whether or not you should have gone to war to get rid of him. I think, had the inspectors continued, had we done other things there were plenty of ways to keep the pressure on Saddam Hussein.
DS: But no way to get rid of him.
JK: Oh, sure there were. Oh, yes there were. Absolutely.
DS: So you're saying that today, even if Saddam Hussein were in power today it would be a better thing you would prefer that . . .
JK: No, I would not prefer that. And Diane don't twist here. Notice how Kerry loses his cool and accuses the questioner of twisting; Is this guy thin-skinned or what?
In tomorrow's debate, Kerry will benefit from lowered expectations because his image among voters is something of a caricature right now. But he still has to do better than he did on GMA. You can bet President Bush has a list of zingers that he will deploy if Kerry gives him an opening.
Seriously, he has gone insane. He freaks me out. His flip flopping is clearly pathological.
I do think about my positions, but I'm not going to be cross-examined as if in a courtroom.
I was a welder for 20+ years, along with being a serious bicyclist. Speaking from personal experience, I was the only serious bicyclist I knew that worked as a welder. Granted, my experience is somewhat limited, but most of the guys I worked with hunted deer, worked on their houses, and, yes, cleared brush.
My point being is that Senator Kerry trying to claim mainstream with his sporting activities is ridiculous. His silly little poses as the common man only expose how elitist he is. I doubt many people working in the trades have the time or the energy to pursue sports that are time consuming and expensive.
You could do a good Kerry impersonation. Here's hoping you don't look like him. :)
Kerry is totally unable to deal with Iraq. He would have never invaded and has no 'new direction'(if you believe one is needed) other than setting an exit date!
Politically he is an 'appeaser' with a strong hatred of military matters. Not a calculating coward as Clinton but rather an 'enlightened pacifist'
The really scary part is that Kerry knew the question in advance and still couldn't get it in the hoop......
Shall we nickname him Agent Orange?
If you think that being asked a direct question about a statement you just made is "cross-examination," then you have obviously never been cross-examined. Calling it "20 questions" or "cross-examination" doesn't make it so - you made a statement predicated on a "successful conclusion" of the mission in Iraq, but you refuse to say what that means.
It's worse than that. He was campaigning in NEWARK!! How many non-Democrats are in Newark?
Clearly, Kerry's base is not enthusiastic. Turnout for him will stink.
OK... Which one of you FReepers kidnapped Diane Sawyer and replaced her with a clone?
And on a side note: Did Kerry still look like a giant Oompa Loompa or has the spray-on tan started to even out?
I prefer the boogaloo, fox trot, or the tango or rumba!
Yesterday I had the image of Kerry's campaign flacks scrubbing the dickens out of him last night.
The man twists and turns like a worm on a hot griddle and then attacks the interviewer who tries to get him to make a comprehensible stand on the issue.
I'll bet that JfK will bow out of the debates after the 1st one. He will just explode after Thursday night!
Just a shell of his former shell. Mr. Bo Toxin is now Mr. Tangerine Man.
hmm....i still think the debates should have a physical fitness component. 4 rounds should suffice. JFK KO'd in the first.
oh my gosh! at this stage in the game, "PICK A POSITION... ONE POSITION!" pick a side, and you will get people to follow you... you'll have people come out against you, but you will have followers, ultimately... at his rate, nobody knows where he stands...
Had Lurch maintained his "tan" for this interview?
