Isn't this what we were told before the Invasion? That Saddam had a nuclear program, was keeping it alive, and had ambitions to get such weapons?

If you look up this book on Amazon.com you'll see that the moveon.org people already are horribly twisting this guy's new book (okay, they're LYING).

Now if we could only find the rest of the poison gas....

Threat is always a matter of perception, but our nuclear program could have been reinstituted at the snap of Saddam's fingers.

Move along people, nothing to see here!

Was Iraq a potential threat to the United States and the world? Threat is always a matter of perception, but our nuclear program could have been reinstituted at the snap of Saddam's fingers. The sanctions and the lucrative oil-for-food program had served as powerful deterrents, but world events - like Iran's current efforts to step up its nuclear ambitions - might well have changed the situation.

Iraqi scientists had the knowledge and the designs needed to jumpstart the program if necessary. And there is no question that we could have done so very quickly.

Here is the graveman of the piece and it should be widely published.

In addition to the inspections, the sanctions that were put in place by the United Nations after the Gulf war made reconstituting the program impossible. During the 1980s, we had relied heavily on the international black market for equipment and technology; the sanctions closed that avenue.

Was Iraq a potential threat to the United States and the world? Threat is always a matter of perception, but our nuclear program could have been reinstituted at the snap of Saddam's fingers.

This guy sounds reasonable enough, but this glaring contradiction has me wondering about his general truthfulness. Sounds like he's aware of how his statements could be used to harm the President, and is attempting to blunt their effect by saying the true threat was Saddam's mental instability.

MSM is playing fast and loose with our future. That they could lie for political hay is beyond belief.

Here is a chart I put together to help understand a bit of the history of reporting on Iraq and al Queda, touching on weapons of mass destruction:

Connect the Dots . . . Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden
