I was several hours late for work on April 12, 1981. Remember what day that was?I sure do. :-)
Pure vanity now:
I am reading this certificate that was presented to me as we speak:
-Presented to "xxx" In Recognition of Outstanding Support Performed During the First Flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia; Twelve thru Fourteen April 1981-
Sorry just had to brag here! :-)

In 1981 I was only dreaming about working on the shuttle, but later had the good fortune to work with a number of folks who were there that day.
You proably remember the B&H store on Courtney. After the successful STS-1 launch, many of the team went down there and had a big druunken party. There were so many of them whooping and hollering that they spilled out into the street and closed off SR 3.
The old console logbooks from those days are still right there in the firing room! I spent a lot of third shifts reading what it was like in the hand of the engineers who sat console that day.

Is our friend Ted working for Fox News now? The announcer at the launch scene said weightlessness begins at 200,000 feet.
Patrick: this is for the ping list
