Overstock.com Secures Exclusive Distribution Rights to 'FahrenHYPE 9/11;' Will Offer Side-by-Side With Michael Moore's 'Fahrenheit 9/11'

SALT LAKE CITY - PRNewswire-FirstCall - Sept. 28

SALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Overstock.com(R) today announced that it has acquired exclusive distribution rights to "FahrenHYPE 9/11," a new documentary that challenges the assertions of Michael Moore in his highly publicized film, "Fahrenheit 9/11." "FahrenHYPE 9/11" will debut on DVD on Oct. 5 -- the same day Moore's film is scheduled for release on DVD. Overstock.com will offer both of these films, and other works sympathetic to each, side-by-side on its website.

According to the film's producer Jeff Hays, "FahrenHYPE 9/11" aims to give a balanced, bi-partisan perspective of the Iraq war and the dangers of the post-9/11 world. The film is narrated by actor and Al Gore activist Ron Silver and features other Democrats such as former NYC Mayor Ed Koch and long-time Clinton advisor Dick Morris. Hays believes the documentary also gives a voice to people, including military personnel, who appeared in Moore's film and feel they were misrepresented.

Overstock.com is trying a unique distribution strategy: it is fulfilling a limited number of orders from a handful of video "rentailers" and brick-and-mortar retailers in order to introduce the documentary to the public. Beyond that, the film will only be available for purchase at Overstock.com for the immediate future.

Patrick Byrne, president of Overstock.com, said he views owning the distribution rights to the film as an opportunity to support a hometown filmmaker and support the broader public purpose of an informed debate. "Given the pressing election, we're proud to be in a position to use our massive direct-market reach to put these films into peoples' homes immediately, bypassing the delay of the conventional retail logistics system."

Byrne added, "Though they could not possibly have seen it, already there are some asserting that 'FarhenHYPE 9/11' must be a right-wing reaction to Mr. Moore's film. It is not: it is a responsible documentary featuring Republicans and Democrats disputing Mr. Moore's claims. These two films make vivid the two opposing worldviews that dominate our mass culture, and I think the polity is served by having both films available to it. These films will be viewed and discussed together for a long time. As Mao said, 'Let a hundred flowers bloom.'"

The DVD of Hays' "FahrenHYPE 9/11" is available for pre-order at Overstock.com for $14.99. A companion book is available for $11.99, and the DVD/Book combo is available for $24.99. The DVD of Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" is available for pre-order at Overstock.com for $21.89. Shipping will start on October 5. As Overstock.com controls the "FahrenHYPE 9/11" distribution, it may be able to begin shipping to consumers earlier than this date, as inventory becomes available.

I'm a little worried about this. Does this mean that FahrenHype 9/11 will not be sold in Wal-Mart stores alongside Fahrenheit 9/11 ?

Please send this to as many freepers as you can:

I've talked to alot of my bretheren in Iraq and they've been inundated with copies of Farenheit 9/11. The blackmarket DVDs have been available for months.

I could use some help to assist in the distribution of the real deal to soldiers that are literally feeling a big dose of "What the Hell??" when they see this crap.

If anyone has any brilliant ideas, please pass them around.

Dick Morris is working right now on sending copies of FahrenHYPE 9/11 to Iraq. According to the Hannity Radio Show today where Dick was being interviewed by Hannity. They have already sent 5000 Copies of this movie to the troops overseas and they are working to ensure a copy is sent to every single soldier over there.

Yeah. I bought a chandelier.

I'm not proud. I have no regrets. It looks purty in my dining room.

But I'll have to send them a letter about why I now need to find a new online retailer.

*sigh*

Ok. I reread it, carefully this time. And while I prefer companies to not be openly political, this crowd does seem to be trying to play it "fair and balanced". They'll carry *heit9/11 and *HYPE9/11. And because they have the exclusive on HYPE, their's will be the only store attempting to have that balance.

I won't give up on them just yet. They have some pretty good deals from time to time.

When was Morris on Hannity's show?

What can Freepers do to help this effort?
