As a fan of Goldwater, I'm sure you're aware there are many factions of 'the right'.
The ones who dominate rightwing politics today; the country club Republicans, 'security' moms, the RNC, RINO/CINO's are those to which my comment was directed. There are no shortage of supporters of such on this website.
At nearly every turn, they show a singleminded determination to make the individual more subservient to the state. Whatever claim they had to individuality was lost long ago when the Goldwater/small government faction was driven from the party.
Of course come election time they offer cheap propaganda to the memory challenged and call themselves individualists. They compare themselves to the avowed socialists of the Democratic party to make themselves look good. I think of it akin to a skunk standing next to a roadkill claiming to smell of roses.
Point taken. Much of the agenda of the political right is blatantly repugnant to those of us who subscribe to objective principles of freedom.
Unfortunately, concessions must be made given the two political directions we are being forced to choose between.
The "lesser of two evils" theory applies now more than ever before--in my lifetime, at least.
Here in America, the idea of getting 51% means a great deal to many of us real conservatives. I rang a thousand doorbells for Barry in "64 when I should have been doing my 9th grade algebra. I was once silly enough to join the "losertarian party" back in the '70's. I can't say I'm a fan of country club/security mom Republicans anymore than I like religious zealots from the right, but it is absurd to disrespect them when truly anti-American jerks like leftist Democrats could take over the nation. Your notion that most American are repulsive stinkers is a useless, self-indulgent, elitist canard which only puts "us" right in the @#$%house.
