The U.S. has no plans to deploy troops along the Mexican border to stanch the deluge of illegal aliens currently pouring into the country at the rate of 3 million per year, President Bush said in an interview broadcast on Monday.
"As the governor of Texas, I was very aware of this issue," Bush told Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly.

"There is a long border, that makes it hard to control. We have beefed up places along the border to try to stop" the flow, he said. When told that his policy didn't seem to be working, Bush insisted, "Its working a little better.
"They're doing a pretty good job down in Arizona, which is the main border crossing. ... I think there's a thousand more border patrol agents along the border. Were modernizing border techniques, were using better surveillance methods to stop this crossing at the border."
The president contended, however, that illegal immigration was driven primarily by the economic realities of the region.
"If you can make 50 cents in the interior of Mexico and five bucks in the interior of the United States, you're coming for the five bucks," he explained.
"I happen to believe the best way to enhance the border is to have temporary-worker cards available for people," he said. "I think the long-term solution for this issue on our border is for Mexico to grow a middle class. That's why I believe in NAFTA."
When warned that "a lot of people are not going to like that answer," Bush told O'Reilly, "Well its a, a truthful answer."
Here is another picture of what is needed.
What? The people in Utah and Pennsylvania were made to vote for the wrong candidate.
There's no excuse. The people are responsible for their own vote. The people in that Utah district voted for the weaker candidate on illegal immigration even though they had every chance not to. And this, from a district teaming with conservatives.
And the freeping same thing goes for the people in Pennsylvania too.
Yep, I liked Pat, Mr. Pooh, but I voted for Bush because I was afraid Gore would win.
How many troops do we have in Germany? In Bosnia?
The question remains unanswered.
Don't I wish -- the photo is smack dab in the middle of the Naco Corridor. It's one of the most popular crossing points on the entire border.
Fact. California keeps electing mostly liberal, pro illegal immigration politico-turds, who in turn keep appointing some of the most liberal pro illegal immigration judges in the country.
Gee, do you actually think there isn't a lesson there?
I actually don't think it's just politics --- open borders doesn't get anyone votes --- there is no evidence that the public wants open borders or votes for either candidate on the basis of that. Except many of the Mexican citizens would vote on the basis of that.
I think it's something else --- the problems in Mexico are pretty bad and getting worse --- it's what happens if anything is done to slow immigration to the USA --- and that is a revolution. Our political leaders think that the corrupt Mexican government at least provides some kind of stability, plus there is a lot of big money at stake for many businesses and others who have moved factories to Mexico. If the Revolution breaks out --- the government will collapse, the elites will flee Mexico and it's going to be anarchy and chaos and a big loss of money for some who get rich from Mexico. We don't want that --- so we keep the current system propped up --- and immigration is an essential part of keeping it propped up.
Amen bro. Sometimes, I feel like packing it in. A country that won't even protect its borders in wartime won't last long, nor, perhaps, should it.
Wrong. They are dying in droves NOW, packed into unventilated trucks, flipping over in vans going 100 the wrong way on highways, and dying of thirst in the desert.
A serious policy, well advertised, would lead to far FEWER deaths, when the coyotes quit the business as unprofitable, do to the 99% chance of being arrested and jailed at hard labor.
BM is fast becoming the biggest a-hole on this website. He's even gone to sending me abusive freepmails, which I simply delete.
I think he's Arne Fufkin with a new screen name.
What would your fair tax proposal do to discourage al Queda types from waltzing over?
Nothing.
I'd propose a Swiss/Israeli type scheme to defend the homeland. An assault rifle in every closet does wonders for discouraging unwanted guests.
They're not looking to take jobs. They're looking to take lives.
Gee, -- who would have guessed..
So the assault rifle n the closet will take down the next airplane flying into the office building?
-- So, -- is your middle name 'pointless hype'?
You mention this is the Israeli model. The Israeli model is also the militarization of their border and the erecting of a security barrier. Yeah, maybe we do agree on using Israel as a model.
Whatever kiddo. When & if you get a real point to make, call someone who cares.
The demographics have changed sharply since 92. The politicians see that. That's why they don't care about immigration.
That's why I referred to the Wilson election as last century.
Politics is the world's second oldest profession. It resembles the world's oldest profession, but is less respectable and results in even less savory bedfellows.
Ding! Ding! Ding!
Exactly!
If you can't or won't quantify a problem, you can't identify it as a problem.
If you can't identify it as a problem, you can't be held responsible for fixing the problem.
The mantra of our government.
