"[ Bush: Militarizing Border Won't Stop Illegal Deluge ]"

What a load of BS. Does he actually think that if we had military on the border (all of it) would not stem the flow if not STOP it? Does he think the American people are stupid enough to believe that statement? I was and am behind the President as pertaining to the war on terrorism but damn, why the hell is he leaving our front and back doors wide open?
By going forward with the war and doing nothing about our borders makes him extremely negligent. He is giving an open invitation to terrorist/illegal invaders to cross our borders and they ARE! Why the heck is he so hell-bent on destroying our country?
W, your making it very difficult for me to vote for you this election but I have no choice.

what a joke --- How can you have a war on terrorism, with multi colored flags flying, and billions of dollars being spent everywhere.. and have an open border anyone can just run across with bombs and weapons..?

Wow! I'm having trouble believing that FReepers would call for big government police state tactics. Confiscate private property? Demand this or that from private business? What happened to property rights? Due process? Throw that away and there's very little left of liberty. Better watch what you call for.

Those who give up liberty for security deserve neither and lose both.

All I want is results in the domestic War on Terror...right now, that's what we should all want and demand.

"There is a long border, that makes it hard to control. We have beefed up places along the border to try to stop" the flow, he said. When told that his policy didn't seem to be working, Bush insisted, "It’s working a little better.

>>>

I'd be laughing, if I weren't crying...

Damn straight. Problem is people don't know what their rights are anymore, and what protections those rights should be guaranteeing us that they're not. How can we hope to effectively defend or regain any lost ground in the fight for our constitutional republic when everyone calls for knee-jerk reactions?

The problem here is one of containment. How do we protect ourselves and contain the government at the same time? The answer is not implement laws and practices that are aimed at taking the liberties from one group in favor of another.

I support building a wall. Bush's approach is unconstitutional. I'd be willing to wager that there would never be an immigration amendment passed in this country that would allow him to do what it is that he is proposing legally.

The fence is a good idea...just build little tiny doors at the base for the snakes and bugs to crawl through. Problem solved all around.

I've never been for property confiscation...for any reason. But, I wonder, what is your opinion on very LARGE (not just slap on the wrist) fines for these employers?

Also, a few years back, a community here tried to sue a major (meat-packing) employer which actually recruited illegals and brought them here. A large percentage ended up in jail. The community tried to sue the company on behalf of the taxpayers, as they were forced to build a new and much larger jail. As it was before the major influx, they were cowed into silence by the media. What are your thoughts on this; what type of recourse should taxpayers have?

What specifically are the wartime rules of engagement to police the mexican border? That's 1000s of miles - specifically how can that be made impenetrable without resorting to draconian tactics?

For all we know we have hundreds or thousands of bombers in our midst, maybe even communications couriers, packing into America more than just a poor discourse towards our nation...??

Or, insulate about 10 inches of the bottom of the fences from any electrical charge. Then the bugs and snakes can crawl through.
However, since you would have to be in contact with both fences to get zapped, the bugs would be ok. Still have the problem with the snakes, though -

Bush seems to want the foxes to guard the henhouse (Re: Mexico and the border.) George, it just doesn't work that way.

Better watch what you call for.

A steady trail away from the likes of Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Palosi, Tom Dachle, marriage destruction, and a Judicial membership that disavows what our country was formed to respect.

Calling for a slow process back to what has made our country great, cannot be a bad thing, however to attempt change of 40 years of destruction over night, will only lead to a quick and fruitless fix.

Follow the transition, it has been to the better and patience will show it to be a well deserved outcome for all.

Lest we all focus on the bad and disregard the good.

Money is private property too. I don't know. For the short term, the border can be beefed up and we can make use of better technology in an attempt to slow them down, but I don't think it's a good idea to militarize it. We are not at war with Mexico and I would not recommend putting killing machines down there. I think it is an economic problem and therefore the long term solution is going to have to involve economic resources: capital, trade and labor, etc.
