The introduction was stirring. John Kerry (news - web sites) has "stood up for cops on the street, stood up for your air and your water, stood up ... to balance the budget, stood up and fought for our veterans," said his running mate, John Edwards (news - web sites). And where did he do all that standing up? "Two decades of fighting for you in the United States Senate."
Republicans contend that Kerry, the Democratic presidential nominee, has a lackluster Senate record and is trying to hide his 20 years there from voters. It's part of their effort to paint him as unqualified to lead the country. "My opponent has had thousands of votes, but very few signature achievements," President Bush (news - web sites) said in July at a campaign rally in Springfield, Missouri.
Kerry has not been a high-profile legislator, but there's no evidence he is trying to pretend he doesn't have a day job. His Senate votes and activities come up regularly on the campaign trail and he says he's proud of them.

He's apparently doing pretty well for a guy who hardly shows up at the place anymore.
Kerry's Senate record? LOL Edwards has just cost Kerry a somewhat respectible loss in November... it's going to be a landslide.
Of note, Kerry has only attended 9% of votes this year... what a joke...
Check congressmerge.com for his voting record since Jan. 2003. It's pathetic in every stretch of the word.
Well that's a ringing endorsement. LOL!
If he's really decided to stand on his record as a Senator...then he is truly on his last leg and knows it's over.
What record???????????
If Kerry was running a competent campaign, he would have been spinning this angle six months ago. It's a bit late for this, but we'll take this on, too.
But the King has to be out and about running for office. What Kerry has not done in the Senate is create and introduce any bills on his own. He has always been on someone else's coattails.
"but there's no evidence he is trying to pretend he doesn't have a day job."
Author must have missed his Convention speech.
That was my question too..I read the article where he's talking about the legislation he worked on ..Sounds like maybe a few days work at best ..Thats it John ??Surely you jest !!!
The fact is; He's not executive material!!!
The article was written by a serious Kerry cheerleader I hope that this article came from the Op-Ed section.
Kerry was in the Senate?
It boggles the mind that Kerry could accomplish all this in only 20 years *cough*.
wow he should have my job ..I do more in a week ..He's NOT presidential materal what so ever.
I can do.. and I taught.. I really hate that phrase.. some teachers are really dedicated.. I was.. until they starved me out of a profession I really loved.
Kerry ...looking to draw an inside straight.
Teacher here too..Difficult job these days ..those who cant do become Ted Kennedy is more like it ..
