I seriously doubt that sugar tarriffs were responsible for all those moves. Those companies are using the tarriffs as an excuse to move to cheap labor.

Since when is Canada a cheap labor country, particularly with their taxation?

If this were true, then no one would ever leave the U.S. since we are the most productive nation on the planet. Per the BLS.

You're elegantly proving my point - the benefits of productivity are being blunted by the over-regulation and taxation that the Democrats and Socialists put in. If those were eliminated, a lot fewer would go.

They don't have ths stats for places like Mexico and Argentina but I think it's safe to say that we far outproduce them. So, to say that the cost of sugar tarriffs offset and in fact make it more profitable to move to places like Argentina and Mexico and disregard the labor cost savings is disingenous.

Then why is Lifesavers moving to Canada?

I would expect that they worked out a deal with the Canadian government.

I did a search at the Kraft website and could find no report of their closing the plant in Michigan. It talks about closing the Lifesavers plant in LifeSavers candy production will move from Barquisimeto, Venezuela to San Jose, Costa Rica;
