Kerry's 9 year old supporter
WCPO-TV ^

Posted on 09/26/2004 9:36:39 PM PDT by AVNevis

While the Bush camp is pushing for votes here in Ohio, John Kerry has one special supporter in the Buckeye state that's making headlines.

Nine-year old Essence Cheatham, of Columbus, Ohio, makes it no secret that she's a big Kerry supporter.

So big, in fact, that she hosts a pro-Kerry group every Tuesday at her school.

The students in the group research and discuss campaign platform issues and even do a little "Bush-bashing."

Cheatham says she's proud that she's not only pro-Kerry, but is pro-active and stands on her beliefs.

"That's why I actually kind of started this group, because I wanted to kind of like make a difference in this school," said Cheatham.

"This is a student that I think that comes around once in a lifetime," said Mike White, her teacher and group advisor."She's so driven and passionate about her beliefs."

Cheatham started the effort last year after she read a magazine article about George Bush that she didn't like.

Drudge was talking about this a little bit tonight. She likes Kerry because she read a magazine article about how bad Bush is. I find it very interesting that the school would even allow such a club in an elementary school. They are at an age where that could be brainwashed by this stuff easily. It's not like at a high school or college where the kids usually have some understanding of how our government works and aren't as likely to belive everything they hear (I have actually been asked by an organisation that wants to start conservative clubs in high schools around the country to start one in my high school. I said no, but I would consider it possibly after I get to know the school a little bit better). I'm sure most of the kids in this school must take what this little girl says as the truth, especially since the teachers seem to love her.

P.S. When I was ten I remember going around my elementary school with some friends trying to convince students to support Bush. I didn't get any attention from anyone other than my teacher who laughed it off. Why when a young liberal becomes politically active do they get profiled on local TV?

Wasn't Hillary Clinton a big Goldwater supporter when she was 9?

I think a nine-year old has just the kind of grasp of the issues it takes to be Kerry supporter.

In 1980 I was a really young kid and I asked my Mom to vote for Carter. All I knew about him was that he was nice and that he was a Christian.

Idolizing Reagan as I do today, I have to chuckle back at my childishness. But since I was, well, a child I figure it was accepted...nay, expected.

Only those with the I.Q. of a rock would listen and take the advice of a nine year old. I'm sure she has wisdom above her years. I can't wait for the news reports of all the people who based their vote on the advice of a nine year old. What is really surprising is that a nine year old has now become the voice of the DNC.

Her parents will probably turn out to be big Dem operatives or fundraisers. How come not a word is said about them?

Probably Carville dreamt it up to get some publicity, and they found one of the Clintonites have a kid, whom they could brainwash.

A proper [for the age] spanking might wonderfully improve her grasp of issues.

Sorry to correct you, but I think it was FDR.

I don't see anything wrong with the existence of the club.

I don't either, exept that at that age the kids will be brainwashed by the club very easily. But as I said in post 1, as the kids get older some of their ignorance goes away.

If you are thinking about politics at such a young age, someone should beat you up! She'll probably be depressed for the next 4 years, after Kerry loses.

Back in '68 (when I was in the 8th grade) 3 students in my class were assigned to represent a presidential candidate. Somehow I got stuck with George Wallace! The teacher (a nun) told me to not do a good job pretending to be Wallace because he was such an evil man. Never one to do a poor job, I was an enthusiastic candidate anyway. At the mock election, I (Wallace) won! The teacher declared the election void and had an immediate recount and declared Humphrey the winner. Nixon said that was unfair and it turned ugly. I learned a lot from that experience.

The Dems had a 12 year old at the Convention rip Chenny and Bush. On stage, talking to the dems. It was a joke. They have a mindset of a 9-12 year old.
